I call it yet another "Bush trying to open closed door" Kodak moment in the history of American presidency.

====

ABC News:

The president and the orchestra at Buckingham Palace this evening were a bit out of synch.
When the president toasted the Queen the orchestra misunderstood a pause and what seemed to be a cue from the president for “God Save the Queen” to begin playing.

“Ladies and gentlemen please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast,” the president said, putting down his note cards and grabbing his glass. “To her majesty the Queen.”

The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play. But the president wasn’t done speaking.

“The vitality –“ the president said before the orchestra began.

Then the familiar tune – you might know it better as “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” – started up.

The president kept going: “ — of the special relationship between our peoples and for the words of Shakespeare to this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,” the president said as the awkward moment played out.

The Queen looked ahead as the UK anthem played.
“To the Queen,” the president finally said.

Quick history lesson...

- Bush incessantly pulling the handle of a closed door to exit the stage.

- Bush choking on a pretzel.

- Bush overheard on the microphone, which he didn't realize was on, using what amounts to uncultured street language and addressing Blair as "yo Blair,...".

- Obama mistaking a window for a door.

- Obama backbiting Republican senators, without realizing that the mic. was on...just like Bush.

...and now of course, this.

Why do American presidents as of late, publicly embarrass themselves before the world?

My guess is that this has always existed, not merely for US presidents but for all heads of state. US presidents happen to be the stars in international politics. Nixon as history dictates was always outrageous and more so than any living president. The increase in media sources, especially with the arrival of the internet has given such incidences full exposure. People have also become more obsessed with celebrity goofs, fashion and trends.

True, that these guys are not the first and likely not going to be the last, but these American presidents are goofy even on the littlest and silliest of things. Look at Obama yet again for instance; the guy is shown posing for photo ops, goofing around--playing basket ball and other games, while serious disasters sweep parts of the country, namely, like the floods in the Midwest. Now, he is seen basking in a royal feast with the British queen, while a series of devastating tornadoes lay parts of the country to waste. This latest embarrassment is kinda good, because it served as a black mark of some sort on his otherwise "trouble-free" and "picture perfect", lavishly narcissistic sense of self-fulfillment, as he walked down the royal carpet with the queen.

HRH hears god save the queen 100 times a day. Look at her face - does she like it? Nooooo. Is she bored of it? Dear lordy, lord - yeeeees. Does that mean foreign presidents can talk through it? However important they are, nooooooooooo.

Well, we liked him coming. It was great. Particularly liked the bit where the underside of his bulletproof, bombproof, nuclearproof car got stuck on a grate (bet they didn't show you that on US new eh).

But yes, seems like a good guy. Keep us kissing good ole US a$$ for years to come. Sincerely [Smile]

The guy on the youtube link had better be careful how he lends himself to comedy as he has appeared on CNN on several occasions as a host. I haven't seen him in about a month.
