KUWAIT CITY, April 10: Eighteen Egyptians, who were deported from the country last month for holding a rally in support of Egypt’s presidential candidate Dr Mohammad ElBaradei, have filed a case against Kuwait’s government in a US court, reports Al-Rai daily.
One of the deportees, former legal officer at Al-Dar Company for Investment, Walid Nasrallah, said the case has been filed in a federal court in New York, and three lawyers - an Egyptian residing in Kuwait and two others residing in America - will take the task of defense.
Nasrallah said Kuwaiti authorities violated the International Law of Civil and Political Rights, which guarantees freedom of peaceful gathering, and added that Article 36 of Kuwait’s Constitution also allows gatherings. The US court is expected to issue its ruling within a few months.
