That's stupid, it's so obvious they wanted to hide what they were doing from the world as best they could and to keep people form panicking as they escorted them to their death camps. That would have have made the murder much more difficult. It also made sense to hide it from civilians in the cleverest ways possible because even though they were sympathetic some may have had a hard time with the level of outright savagery. There's a lot of other logistics involved. Some people do forced labor and work in factories. Bodies had to be disposed of in a certain way.

Idiot they were dealing with civilized countries. They had several on their side. The rhetoric was a little more sophisticated than "we want to rule the world" (although they did). They had their fatherland norse mythology etc, etc. and promises of benefits of being allies. There were antisemitic people in these countries who wanted all this but some of them had general population that didn't have the stomach for outright mass murder of women and children and may have had second thoughts about supporting something that brutal. You know this you are just playing games. Yes there were Ukrainians and other Eastern Europeans who had enough hatred to watch mass shootings, some pitching in, outside of Germany by the SS that occurred before the Nazis thought up gassing. And obviously the Nazis did not want a human rights outcry that could have encouraged the U.S. and other countries to mobilize against them earlier. When the Jews were being rounded up they thought they were going to be ghettoized and deported. That's what a lot of the non-Jewish civilians also thought. There is no escaping the obvious logic if you want to move a group of people forcibly you have to be harsh. But you don't tell people they are going to be murdered or they will simply run in all directions or some of them might try to attack you. German civilians who sympathized with Jews might have also told them ahead of time and that could have made the job of moving them around and killing them a lot harder if they were to hide or retaliate in a last ditch effort.

I don't know if you can really say they started WWII. The invasion of Poland was intended to recover German territory lost during the treaty of Versailles. It can be argued that they really didn't expect Britain to respond: afterall Sudentenland was handed over to Hitler by the British and French and the Anschluss elicited no response.
