Afrocentric Claim: The Fomorians were Black

‘‘The Fomorian sea rovers of Irish myth were Black men…’’
(Ivan Van Sertima, African Presence in Early Europe, 1985)
================

According to Irish mythology, Ireland was settled by numerous different people or tribes, several thousand of years ago.

One of these first tribes was considered the Fomorians or Fomors. The name ''Fomor'' literally means ‘‘beneath the sea’’ from the Gaelic faoi-mhuir. The name Fomor itself therefore relates to water, which is why many scholars have considered the Fomorians as having been a race of pirates or sea raiders. The Fomors can easily be euhemerised into a real historical people, which is why Afrocentrics are keen to distort the truth about them.

From some old Irish writings we have which sources which physically describe the Fomors.

Firstly quoting from a poem of the Cath Maige Tuired which is known as the Cath Tánaiste Maige Tuired, or the The Second Battle of Mag Tuired. This poem was found in a manuscript dated to the early 16th century; but is believed to have been based on an early text from the 9th century:*

‘‘Now the conception of Bres came about in this way. One day one of their women, Eriu the daughter of Delbaeth, was looking at the sea and the land from the house of Maeth Sceni; and she saw the sea as perfectly calm as if it were a level board. After that, while she was there, she saw something: a vessel of silver appeared to her on the sea. Its size seemed great to her, but its shape did not appear clearly to her; and the current of the sea carried it to the land. Then she saw that it was a man of fairest appearance. He had golden-yellow hair down to his shoulders, and a cloak with bands of gold thread around it. His shirt had embroidery of gold thread. On his breast was a brooch of gold with the lustre of a precious stone in it. Two shining silver spears and in them two smooth riveted shafts of bronze. Five circlets of gold around his neck. A gold-hilted sword with inlayings of silver and studs of gold.’’

- Described here is Elatha, a prince of the Fomorians.
-He is described clearly as having blonde hair and having been of a ‘‘fairest appearance’’.
- The son of Elatha and Ériu of the Tuatha Dé Danann was Bres, who derived his name from his white complexion (bhreg-''to shine white'').

A similar tale of the Fomorians fair skin and blondness is also found in other collected Irish folk tales (see Ancient Irish Tales, C.H. Slover, 1936). Charles Square also noted:*

‘‘Elathan, one of their chiefs, is described in an old manuscript as of magnificent presence--a Miltonic prince of darkness. A man of fairest form, it says, with golden hair down to his shoulders. He wore a mantle of gold braid over a shirt interwoven with threads of gold...’’

The Fomorians interestingly appear in similar Scottish folklore, under the name Fooar, like the Fomors they were also fair skinned blondes, their Goddess was called Beira who Donald Alexander Mackenzie described (Wonder Tales from Scottish Myth and Legend, 1917, p29):

‘‘Each giant son of Beira was called a Fooar...
[Beira's] hair once golden is grey’’

So contrary to what Afrocentrics claim, the evidence from old Irish sources and folklore proves the Fomorians were a blonde haired, light skinned race not a race of Black Africans.

*The Second Battle of Mag Tuired, 15-16, translated by Elizabeth A. Gray, 1983.
*Celtic Myth and Legend, 1905, p. 47.
=====================

Afrocentric Claim: The Fomorians originated from Africa

‘‘We have, for example, the legends of the mysterious African sea-rovers, the Fomorians’’
(http://www.ipoaa.com/black_people_early_britain_europe.htm)
======================

Geoffrey Keating wrote that the Fomorians came from Africa (Foras Feasa ar Éirinn, 7):

‘‘Neimheadh won three battles on the Fomorians, namely, navigators of the race of Cham, who fared from Africa; they came fleeing to the islands of the west of Europe’’

However in total contrast, the Lebor Gabála Érenn states the Fomors came from an ancestral home in the cold far north of Scandinavia. Their origin therefore is not agreed.

====================

Afrocentric Claim: Most Gods and figures of Irish Mythology were Black

‘‘Irish myth preserves the presence of an inhabiting dark skinned people’’
(Ivan Van Sertima, African Presence in Early Europe, 1985)

=========================

This claim is obviously false; there are actually no Irish historical or mythological sources which describe a dark skinned people in Ireland.

Consider the following, most notably that the legendary Irish Gods and figures from the Four Cycles are described persistently as white or fair skinned with yellow (blonde) or red hair:

Fedelm, the legendary poet, and prophet of the Ulster Cycle is physically described as having yellow hair (Táin Bó Cúalnge, I).

Deirdre, the foremost tragic heroine of the Ulster Cycle is physically described in the Book of Leinster (The Exile of the Sons of Usnech) as blue eyed, white skinned and fair haired:

‘‘Tis a maid who screamed wildly so lately,
Fair and curling shall locks round her flow,
And her eyes be blue-centred and stately;
And her cheeks, like the foxglove, shall glow.
For the tint of her skin, we commend her,
In its whiteness, like snow newly shed;
And her teeth are all faultless in splendour
And her lips, like to coral, are red...’’

Fionn mac Cumhaill, the famed hero warrior of the Fennian cycle, derived his name from his fair skin and hair as told in the The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn. His daughter was called ‘‘Keva of the White Skin’’ because of her paleness.

Niamh, one of the Queens of Tir na nÓg, was known as ‘‘Niamh of the Golden Hair’’.

The famed king Eochaid Feidlech in the Ulster Cycle (Togail Bruidne Dá Derga) is physically described as fair skinned, while in the same text the heroine Étaín is described as having blue eyes and white skin:

''At the well, the woman loosened her hair in order to wash it, and her hands appeared through the opening of the neck of her dress. As white as the snow of a single night her wrists; as tender and even and red as foxglove her clear, lovely cheeks. As black as a beetle's back her brows; a shower of matched pearls her teeth. Hyacinth blue her eyes; Parthian red her lips. Straight, smooth, soft and white her shoulders; pure white and tapering her fingers; long her arms. As white as sea foam her side, slender, long, smooth, yielding, soft as wool. Warm and smooth, sleek and white her thighs; round and small, firm and white her knees. Short and white and straight her shins; fine and straight and lovely her heels''

It is also finally interesting to note, that a passage from the Lebor Gabála Érenn (Ch. 25) states the entire race of Gaedels/Gaels were white skinned.

=============

Afrocentric Claim: Kenneth III was Black

‘‘The Moors were dominant in Scotland in the 10th century. One of them, was known as King Kenneth, sometimes as Niger or Dubh, a surname which means 'the black man.’’
(http://www.100greatblackbritons.com/bios/niger_val_dub.html)
=====================

Cináed mac Duib or Kenneth III of Scotland (King of Scots from 997 to 1005) had the nickname ‘‘Dubh’’ or ‘‘Niger’’ meaning ‘‘the black’’.

This title he inherited from his father Dub mac Maíl Coluim.

Old Gaelic poems explain the origin of this nickname; the Duan Albanach for example states Dub earned it because he was vehement or fierce.*

It is clear therefore that Kenneth (nor his father) derived his nickname because of being dark skinned.

*Irish Archaeological Society (1848), 270 et seq.

====================

Afrocentric Claim: Thorfinn Sigurdsson was Black

‘‘Thorfinn was described as "one of the largest men in point of stature, and ugly, sharp featured, and somewhat tawny, and the most martial looking man... It has been related that he was the foremost of all his men.’’ (http://www.cwo.com/~lucumi/british.html)
=======

Thorfinn Sigurdsson or ‘‘Thorfinn the Black’’ was an 11th century Earl of Orkney. He is physically described in the Orkneyinga Saga (Ch. 20):

‘‘He was unusually tall and strong, an ugly-looking man with a black head of hair, sharp features, a big nose and bushy eyebrows, a forceful man, greedy for fame and fortune. He did well in battle, for he was both a good tactician and full of courage.’’

Afrocentrics seem to be using an alternative translation from this same quote from the Orkneyinga Saga. Runoko Rashidi quotes it but does not provide the source, nor do any other Afrocentric web links which are found by a search engine search.

It is evident though from the Orkneyinga Saga that Thorfinn derived his nickname ‘‘the Black’’ because of his ‘‘black head of hair’’, nothing to do with his skin complexion.
================

Afrocentric Claim: Pliny wrote the Britons were Black like Ethiopians

‘‘Pliny who first saw the complexion of the Britons in the 2nd century, described their complexion as ‘‘Ethiopian’’ (Ivan Van Sertima, African Presence in Early Europe, 1985)
=========

What Pliny actually wrote was the following (Naturalis Historia, 22. 2) :

‘‘There is a plant in Gaul, similar to the plantago in appearance, and known there by the name of "glastum:" with it both matrons and girls among the people of Britain are in tile habit of staining the body all over, when taking part in the performance of certain sacred rites; rivalling hereby tile swarthy hue of the Ethiopians, they go in a state of nature.’’

So the ancient British painted their skin with a substance which made them take on a swarthy hue like the Ethiopians.

Obviously then their natural skin colour was therefore white if they had to be painted to appear dark.

This is just one of many sources Afocentric diliberately distort. They clearly have no conscience.
=========

Afrocentric Claim: The Picts were dark skinned pygmies

‘‘Other wild stories included that they were dark-skinned pygmies…’’
(http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/the-truth-about-the-picts-886098.html)
==========

We owe the silly idea the Picts were dark skinned pygmies to the eccentric Scottish folklorist and ‘‘gypsy ethnologist’’ David McRitchie (d. 1925).

Afrocentrics love to quote from his obscure works.

The truth is though; we have early Roman writings which physically describe the Picts or Caledonians of Scotland as red haired and fair skinned (see for example Tacitus, Agricola, 12).

Some ancient Pictish stone slabs have also come down to us, these depict how the Picts looked, none of course look Negroid but show an ancient people with long straight hair and noses.
==============

Afrocentric Claim: Scota was a Black Egyptian

‘‘Scota was a Black Egyptian who founded Scotland’’
(Early African presence of the British Isle and Scandinavia)
=============

Various old chronicles and myths cite the Scota story, which links Egypt to the founding of Scotland.

You can find the standard account of the story of Scota and how she ended up in Scotland in the 15th century manuscript entitled Scotichronicon.

The Afrocentric fallacy here is clearly their equation of Egyptians to Blacks (when they never were); and from the Scotichronicon itself we are however provided a physical picture of Scota – which shows her as white skinned.
===============

Afrocentric Claim: Tacitus wrote the Silures were dark skinned

‘‘Tacitus wrote the Silures were a dark complexioned race’’
(J.A. Rodgers, Sex and Race: Were the first Britons, Negroes?)
=========

In his Agricola (Ch. 11) the Roman historian Tacitus wrote:

‘‘Namque rutilae Caledoniam habitantium comae, magni artus Germanicam originem adseverant; Silurum colorati vultus, torti plerumque crines et posita contra Hispania Hiberos veteres traiecisse easque sedes occupasse fidem faciunt.’’

The Caledonians of Scotland are described as red haired – rutilae and the Silures as - colorati.

These are the only two colours mentioned by Tacitus in this passage.

Black, in Latin, is ‘‘Niger’’ or ‘‘Nigra’’, but wait, that doesn't appear here. What appears here is ‘‘colorati’’ which translates as ''sunburnt'' or ‘‘red-faced’’.*

So the correct translation is as follows:

‘‘The red hair and large limbs of the inhabitants of Caledonia point clearly to a German origin. The sunburnt hue (or red faces) of the Silures, their usually curly hair, and the fact that Spain is the opposite shore to them, are an evidence that Iberians of a former date crossed over and occupied these parts’’

*As appears in Ovid, Amores 1. 14. 16 describing the sunburnt reddish hue of the Seres.
====================

Afrocentric Claim: Scotland was originally called Black Land

‘‘Scotland – Scota – meaning Black…Land’’
(Gerald Massey, A Book of Beginnings to the Egyptian origins of the British Isles)
===================

Afrocentrics claim Scotland originally was called ‘‘Black Land’’, no sources are offered of course.

The truth is though that Scotland was once called the Kingdom of Alba, and Alba translates as white. The earliest name for the British Isles was Albion meaning ‘‘white land’’.

From Encyclopedia Britannica:

"Albion...the earliest-known name for the island of Britain... translated as ‘‘white land’’.

=====================

Afrocentric Claim: King Gormund was an African

‘‘…African King Gormund who ruled over Ireland during the Anglo Saxon period’’
(Ivan Van Sertima, African Presence in Early Europe, 1985)

========================

According to the legend preserved by Geoffrey of Monmouth, an African king by the name of Gormund and his followers were invited to England by the Anglo-Saxons. Other early sources though have made it clear that Gormund was an African Vandal. *

The Vandals migrated into Northern Africa, set up a small kingdom there and were a white Germanic people.

*http://www.arthuriadofcatumandus.com/3-11.php

====================

Afrocentric Claim: Norse mythology speaks of dark skinned Dwarves

‘‘There are legends in Northern Europe of dark dwarves’’
(Ivan Van Sertima, African Presence in Early Europe, 1985)
===================

There seems to be confusion on the Afrocentric behalf on this topic of Dwarfs, as they like to believe the Dwarves of Norse mythology were dark skinned and thus based on a black pygmy presence in ancient Scandinavia.

However this is not what the Poetic Edda states.

Dwarves are described as pale white skinned (Alvíssmál, 2).

The Dwarf Alvis is described as Sva fölr um nasar meaning ‘‘pale skinned about the nose’’ and as pale as a corpse (Ibid).

According to the Alvíssmál - sunlight was lethal when exposed to the Dwarves because they turned into stone, their skin was therefore very pale because they stayed underground or inside.

====================

Afrocentric Claim: The Heroes and Gods of the Norse were Black

‘‘There are stories across Scandinavia of Negroes…as warriors and Gods’’ (J.A. Rodgers, Sex and Race: Were the first Britons, Negroes?)
===============

This is another baseless claim. Consider the following:

Wayland the Smith or Volundr is described as white skinned and blonde haired (Wayland-Dietrich Saga, I. I-II).

Sigurd is described as red-golden haired in the Volsunga Saga, 22:

‘‘Now the hair of sigurd was golden-red of hue’’

His Germanic variant, Siegfried, is described as blonde haired (Nibelungenlied).

Svanhild is described as a blonde and pale (Gudrunarhvot, 16).

Angrim the famed berserker was red haired and white skinned (Eyrbyggja Saga, 5).

^What a schizo Afronut is. He makes a dumb Jesus thread that made no sense, so to preserve the integrity of his most active account, he sacrifices his cassiterides (yes, they are the same person) account by spamming nonsense about individual fringe claims that he wants to somehow associate with the views here. Won't work and neither one of your accounts are taken seriously no matter how you try to play it.

So where are those actual refutations Eurocentrists? I'm still waiting.

First off make a coherent sentence. Second I agree with Cassi on something and disagree on others. Just like I agree with M.K on somethings and Disagree on others.

Speaking of White Supremists, I see your ass Copy-N-Pasting White Suprimists stuff about "Apartied" in 12th Dynasty Egypt, and Posting White Supremist images and claiming Egyptians as Europeans.

Your fake ass is not even African or black, Yesterday you were Ugandan Then West African, Then African American, then Phillipino.

Then somebody has to explain the herkonungr Giermundr Heljarskin who held his own fort in southern Rogaland. He certainly wasn't white. And what about all the family crests? Wait. Lemme guess, they're slaves?

Here is the link to the book ORIGINS OF THE ANGLO-SAXON RACE by Thomas William Shore. The chapter of interest is entitled OUR DARKER FOREFATHERS (Chapter VII p.
103-120).

Got this from the rastalivewire site I know some posters from there post here. Also Ancient and modern britons by David Mac Ritchie has alot of information on the darker populations of Britain, Scotland, Ireland etc. I used to have an online link to this book but can no longer find it does anyone have one? Also the OP has shown to have fraudulent poster who openly ignores facts when irrefutable and right before his eyes. How can someone like that be taken seriously?

''Here is the link to the book ORIGINS OF THE ANGLO-SAXON RACE by Thomas William Shore. The chapter of interest is entitled OUR DARKER FOREFATHERS (Chapter VII p.

=======

I own this work in physical copy.

The ''dark forefathers'' is a reference to brunette (brown) HAIR.

Many white people are brown haired.

Look up John Beddoe and 'negresence''

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigrescence

''In 1885, John Beddoe compiled an index of negrescence to analyze the population of the British Isles.[2] Beddoe used the physical descriptions of a population of 13,000 males to compile his index. He gave one point to a male with red or blonde hair. He gave one point to men with dark hair as well. A black haired male was given two points. If the male had brown or chestnut colored, hair, they were considered neutral. He created a "Map Showing Distribution of Negrescence in Britain". This map was recreated and published by R. H. Hodgkin in 1935. It shows that the hair color of men in western Scotland, Wales and Ireland was darker than the hair color of males in eastern England and eastern Scotland.''

- The context of 'dark' is dark HAIR. Not dark skin.

Nice try though...you really should check these sources before getting them from cranky afrocentric websites which don't even check what they mean, or even worse diliberately distort HAIR to skin colour...

There were no Blacks in Britain in ancient times. Blacks have no roots or history with the British Isles.
