Another guy you may find interesting is Rev Athlyi. That was Marcus Garvey's guru, and one of the earliest Rastites.
Remember too, that though it started in Jamaica, there were pre-Rastas or Rastaites in United States. Roger Athlyi, Marcus Garvey, Father Howell, were all began their black liberation career in the hotbed of the United States.
Garvey and Howell went back to Jamaica after various jail terms.
Athlyi also went back to Jamaica or Barbados, where he later died ....
These three men were foundational to Rastafari.
But Garvey is hailed as the greatest!

Thanks for posting additional information on Garvey.
Rastafari needs to continue to expand and evolve, as does the American Black Moorish movement.
There exists a great deal of similar energy between the two movements, and not enough difference that there should not have been a serious attempt to unite them under a common goal.
The same can be said for the Nation Of Islam and the Black Moors, from which the NOI originated. Today, we can no longer afford to have these entities as separate disconnected groups. Time for unification of at least these three, as a counter to the brain numbing and entropic alternative, the black church.

In the film, I was especially surprised by the Rastas going to Fidel Castro and asking for Cuban support to over throw the Island's US controlled puppet government. Had that had happened, would Jamaica be a socialist government today with production versus tourism as it's chief commodity?

Cuba never had anything to do with the toppling of Haile Selassie's government.
Selassie was toppled 1974 and supposedly died in 1975.
Soviet Union and Cuba only signed a defence pact with Ethiopia in 1976. Ethiopia fully embraced both countries in 1977 Ogaden wars.

Africans and Africa Americans must finally take responsibility for their own choices, both good and bad. We fail to take the responsibility of our own futures by allowing others to make these choices for us. If a leader is selling out our futures for the comfort of his own and his family, well simply, it's up to the people to make that sell-out disappear. African Americans even failed to take this type of responsibility for their lives when whites flooded their communities with crack cocaine. They allowed those sell-outs in their communities to crap on the dining room tables without any consequences or penalties when they should have been chopping off those peoples heads and displaying them on the corner of the block.
Instead, they allowed these sell outs to sell and hook their children on this custom tailored melanin seeking drug and ultimately lose their lives while the white man profited.
Those that crap where they eat don't deserve a place at the dinner table.

I don't see where the question is relevant. Cuba is aware that the Pre-Evolution plantations and Casinos were dependent on Jewish funding, as well as where the profits from those ventures went. They are also well aware that the US teamed with the Jewish Mob to conduct the Pig Of Pigs assault.
Today, there is no doubt that the US embargo of Cuba is spearheaded by Zionist Jews, not because of Communism or spite, but because they don not wish African Americans to be influenced by revolutionary ideas from their black Cuban counterparts.

Kwame Nkrumah’s statue, which was recently unveiled at the African Union (AU) headquarters, has sparked anger amongst Ethiopian scholars, historians and politicians, who feel the country’s former leader Haile Selassie deserved the honour.
Members of Parliament have also been drawn into the debate and on Wednesday raised the issue with Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi as he delivered a half yearly report to the House.
However, Meles defended the decision to honour Nkrumah, the former Ghanaian leader, whom he described as a pan African.
What has further incensed the Ethiopians is that, with the AU headquarters being in their country, they expected a statue of their former leader to be erected.
Nkrumah is credited with being the brains behind the creation of the Organisation of African Union (OAU), a precursor to the AU. He led the so-called “progressive states”, a six-member organisation called the Casablanca Group, founded in 1961. The group later morphed into the OAU in 1963.
Ethiopian scholars and politicians questioned why the government had not suggested the construction of Haile Selassie’s statue at the recent AU summit. Selassie’s supporters claim he is the father of Africa and he deserved to have his statue at the AU compound, instead of Nkrumah’s.
“It is Haile Selassie who is described by African leaders as the father of Africa not Nkrumah,” Dr Yacob Hailemariam, a popular politician and an opposition party member, said. Hailemariam has written articles in local media, calling upon historians to proclaim who deserved to have a statue erected at the AU.
It is only Nkrumah who is remembered whenever we talk about pan Africanism
Hailemariam accused the Ethiopian government of not lobbying for a statue in Selassie’s honour, a view shared by many of the country’s scholars, who blame the government for not giving any credit to its former leader. “We as Africans should be proud of Nkrumah for his pan African movement.”
“It is a shame not to accept his role. It is only Nkrumah who is remembered whenever we talk about pan Africanism,” Meles insisted, as he addressed the debate.??
Meles’s government has often criticised Selassie’s track record.
However, there are still many people who appreciated Selassie, a former Ethiopian emperor, for his role in Africa’s independence and unity.
Selassie was known for lending support to South Africa’s fight against apartheid and invited former president Nelson Mandela to Ethiopia to get military training. The former South African president acknowledged in a recent book that he was able to attend an OAU summit during the apartheid era, at the behest of Selassie who facilitated that he received an Ethiopian passport and attended the meeting as a journalist.
Ethiopian historians said they also remembered Selassie for his leading role in the creation of the OAU. “Our government, because of its hatred for Selassie, failed to campaign for him, while Ghana proposed to the AU to have Nkrumah’s statue. This is a historical mistake by our government,” Hailemariam charged.
Under Nkrumah’s leadership, Ghana, in 1957, became the first African country to attain independence.
Selassie, who is believed to have been killed by a military junta about 40 years ago, is buried inside the country’s national palace. His remains were reburied after his family and supporters asked for an official burial ceremony. But, the current government didn’t give recognition for his official burial ceremony and denied him a state funeral.
The perceived animosity has given rise to speculation that Meles’s government had been the stumbling block to a statue being erected for the former emperor. “It was because of Selassie that the AU is in Addis Ababa. It is not because of the current regime,” another Historian, Mesfin Tariku said. “We have no idea on the criteria used to choose Nkrumah.”

The coming of the Messiah was first promised by Moses. Yet, Moses promised that in the end, another Mosiac figure would come to liberate Israel, at home and abroad, from mental and physical enslavement, and re-dedicate “and livicate” them back to the path of righteousness. A self-educated printer/publisher from St. Anne Bay Parish, Jamaica. A descendant of African royalty, from Kongo, trapped in the Carribean Islands. He rose from deprivation, and shook the world with his teachings. His name was Marcus Mosiah Garvey.
After he was done, neither the world, nor the so-called negro, nor the so-called white man ever remained the same again. Marcus equalized the playing field with his wise teachings. By the truths that he re-discovered for I and I, he gave back to the so-called negro, his mojo…his pride, but most importantly his nationality and true identity.
The so-called negro rose on his feet all over the world and demanded better. Negros made a step forward and became the champions of the world. Because they always had the royal gene, the godly blood, the divinity of their Jah, in their physical makeup.

That is why Kwame Nkrumah honoured Honourable Marcus Garvey, by stamping the black star on the red, gold and green flag of the Republic of Ghana.
Marcus Garvey is the messiah, because by his words and his works, the black nation of Israel is being rebuilt day by day, politically and economically.
By the works and words of Marcus Garvey, we are freed by mental, spiritual and physical oppression at the hands of those who stole our nations, our bodies and our cultures.
Marcus Garvey gave us back Africa when he blew the first trumpet….chanting Africa for Africans at home and abroad. And the wicked melted away from Africa when the trumpet sounded!

Fard, Elijah Mohammed, Malcom X, Martin Luther King Jr., Nnamdi Azikiwe, Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, any notable and authentic black man or woman that has lived in the last century, all drew inspiration from the wisdom and compassion of our father Marcus Mosiah Garvey.
Indeed Marcus Garvey is the father, the founder, and our saviour, the messiah. Follow Marcus Mosiah Garvey!

I've been researching the Cuban angle and the Rastas. It seems that communist Cuba isn't being very understanding of Rasta rituals, and is jailing Rastas for breaking the law (smoking weed) at a high rate.
