There was a movie made about motown and at the end it shows them taking the "new" group the Beatles under their wing. It also showed white Americans jeering at them for going inside.

There is a two bar rule. If you are under it you can get away with it.
Willie Dixon, the great bluesman successfully sued Led Zeppelin. A group with a lot more blues influence than the Beatles.
Chuck Berry successfully sued the Beach Boys an won, they stole most of the music part of the 1963 hit "Surfin' U.S.A." based on Berry's "Sweet Little Sixteen"
