This is not about gaining anything, or even loosing anything.

There should be 3 or more forums at hand: Egyptology- pure egyptian stuff General studies- intelligent discussion of non egyptian anthro/science/history/culture Misc- everything else etc etc
Since we only have 2 slots to work with- leave as is. Merging them means any nonsensical crud wins out and dominates the space. Keep the limit on it now rather than giving it a free hand to spread.

As you obvious have a sense of vision for ES I do respect your opinion.
But think of this, had the original forum not been split then that means that all along since then to now all the fluff would've been immediately trounced as was being done before the split.
Since 2004 our sides of ES have always delved into non-Egyptology.
As it is, Egyptology is maybe the majority interest of the membership (more likely the primary plurality).
Strict niche forums don't work for the crowd who posts here who can't even keep a thread on topic, sometimes as early as the 4th or 5th post of a thread.
In a world of educated mature contributors your 3 way split is an excellent proposal.
The problem now with AE forum is it's deadweight dragging the site down (in terms of intelligent conversation and debate by mature responsible adults). Face it, ES is known for AE posts and posters not E.
I feel no obligation to carry on with things as they have been now that my name and reputation are associated with the direction these forums take. I have beeged and pleaded for input using a set of now defunct stickies to solicit input from everybody on a joint venture to define the forum but to no avail as only yourself and maybe 1 or 2 others bothered to reply in other than their own self-interest. So now I will do what I see as fit yet I will always take your suggestions in mind letting them percolate.

Nobody wants change and growth or even reattaining the respect or fear ES had before the split.
I think I get it now. Behind all the facades what y'all really want are the racism, homophobia, fake history, flaming, distortion of peer review, and the absentee landlord's definitions of E & AE, right?
I have it within my power to cleanup this cesspool and have it rebuilt by the few mature posters who are here and the few and far between newbs that post Egyptology but get only one or two replies.
It could be a polished board (like most other 'history archaeology anthropology genetic' boards are, i.e. free of racism, homophobia, fake history, flaming, and distortion of peer review) but not with the current crew of misfits who in fact carry the board.
I realize I don't have the material at present to make this a polished board and if it remains as is the 'material' I need will continue giving it the wide berth of avoidance they do.
Too bad, with the 'net power of Egyptsearch.com this could be the top ranking live input website for independent minded African Studies and Egyptology without the inaccuracies and excesses of the chauvinistic Black Studies forums out there today.
Instead it is basically the forum for RealHistory that Mike111 is too cowardly to add to his web site because he is afraid for RealHistory readers to see his racism and hatred of Africa and real day to day black people not to mention his inability to debate or even reply civilly to refutation and rebuttal.
