When Black communities were being destroyed by wholesale incarceration and.draconian drug policy, not a word could be heard from Whites..

Surprise ;-). I agree. The drug laws have always been racist (blacks were supposedly going crazy with marihuana in the movie "reefer Madness). Opiates became dangerous in 1914 with the Harrison act and enforced on minorities, but before this all sorts of little old ladies, middle class whites were zoned out on "tonics" that contained opiates. Same hypocrisy when you get disparate sentencing for crack versus powder cocaine.

This is just the latest in a long history.
