We are visiting Cairo over New Year's Eve. Would love to get some suggestions on fun New Year's eve activities --parties, shows etc. in Central Cairo. Thanks!

What hotel are you staying in? Some of the 4*/5* places have a New Year's package built in that you have to pay for whether or not you plan to attend.

nice idea: marriot-boat in zamalek u pay and get some shows, whole menu and its cruisin on the nile, i havent tried it but heard about it!

Staying at the Nile Hilton. Thanks for the Marriott Boat idea --soundsbinteresting. Where do local Egyptians go? Any large public celebrations?

Unfortunately no. New year's night is no big thing here. As others pointed out, the bigger hotels and clubs have New Year's parties, most of them have to be booked in advance and are quite expensive.
The only large public celebration for a New Year's night I know of was 1999 / 2000 at the pyramids. It was a great event, btw, very impressing, but I noticed that the majority of those attending were foreigners. Posts: 2334 | Registered: Aug 2002
