Ok, some of U have been in Cairo for a bit.
You may splash da'a on your koshary like a real Egyptian.
Koshary, ahhhhhhh, to all who don't know, it is a traditional Egyptian meal that consists of a strange combination of macaroni, spaghetti, rice, black lentils, chick peas, garlic sauce and a spicy tomato chili sauce, all topped with fried onions.
Now, why am writing this?
This is because am hiding in my office now, eating koshary...lol
Yes, in my office, one of my best friends got the bright idea to get me a magically delicious dish of koshary...mmmmmmmm
It had been years since I had eaten so much at one sitting, and I continued eating even after my appetite was gone. Who know when I'd get another such delecious meal?
Just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed my today koshary experience......lol

Adoula, Thanks for introducing me to this site. I guess there is no better way to enter a site than publishing the news of my delicious Koshary I always say that I have a good sense of cooking even though I don’t look like knowing how to cook – I seem like “to go box” girl, but never imagine to share it online )))))) Getting Koshary to the office today was a big step for me, I know. I’m glad that you like it... Belhana welshefa

Which type of macaroni is typically used in Egypt for koshari? Is it the larger rainbow shaped ones that are around 1cm in diameter? Or the smaller rainbow shaped ones that are around 2mm in diameter?

Its a mix of long hair macaroni cut into small size & small rainbow ones .. it's not a big deal .. u can always use your own kind of macaroni .. Koushary won't mind at all

No ... that would be a big mistake. You eat a meal rich in carbohydrates (mostly PASTA) the evening before. 2-4 hours before a race - light food only. Posts: 2334 | Registered: Aug 2002

If I would answer this question extensively, Adoula, I would have to type for half an hour (which I don't have time for right now) and bore everyone else on here to death.
If you're really interested in this do a net search for "carbohydrate loading" and "marathon" and I'm sure you'll find lots of articles on the subject which will probably be much better than I could explain it.
But next time I run a marathon I will have kushari the night before.

I never knew that Kushary was that existing , for me , it is just another great meal I can eat on the run, I had the pleasure of eating kushary made personally by the chife of the Kushary League in Egypt ( I know you will all laugh about that < but there is one , and my best friend's Dad is the president )he makes the Chili sauce, But his wife makes the best rice pudding ever, I might invite myself over there to have some, Dalia , and Abdula, if you want something for endurance , then try 7alawa te7eneyah , we use to eat 1 Kilo Each before any competition ( with Loots of water force ) and the best thing about it, after 3 hours of heavy sports you don’t lose an inch Posts: 785 | From: Cairo, Egypt | Registered: Aug 2004
