on Sun, 15/08/04, abt. 4 pm Sheikh Hessein Omar died in his home in Medan el Gemma, Heliopolis, Cairo at age around 100 years surrounded by his family, may Allah bless his soul and grant him a place in al Jannah el Firdaus in nearness to Allah swt and close to his beloved Prophet Mohamed saw, Allahumma amin.
He (may Allah bless his soul) kept the whole quran by heart since he was 10 years old, he was kind and full of love, humble and modest, he loved everybody and everybody loved him, he was the blessing of the whole area, the Medan el Gemma mosque and all the people he knew. He used to say and live; greet your muslim brother even whom you don't know with all your love, and Allah will return the love of this person to you. Even when he was old and started to have problems with his eye sight, he would still go on teaching small children and women the quran at the mosques, while distributing small bonbons and sweets. He used to walk the streets even on the hottest days with a wooden stick in his hand, in his white galabeya, covered by a heavy dark-blue or the other brown coat, his head covered with a thin white scarve or praying cap and then again with a white/colored tall cotton scarve over his head and shoulders, his face and hands shiny bright, his beard white and hair white, his skin full and stretched, not one wrinkle in his face or on his hand or feet, if you touched him, you would smell his musk (perfume oil) for hours on your skin. Stranger would walk up to him attracted by his appearance and light and ask him for his prayers, advice or give him small presents. He would never turn away from anyone. When you stayed with him you would not feel time passing by, nor would you want to leave him, but you would push yourself to go because you know how much he loves to spend his time with reciting the Quran and to send blessings on the Prophet Mohamed saw, and when he did, his eyes would overflow with tears. Besides him you would never feel any cold or any hot, on the hottest summer day there would be a cold breeze of wind playing around him, and he would always attribute this blessing to the visitors, not to himself.
Even at the graveyard at his burial in the middle of the noon at the hottest time, Allah would bless the grieving crowd with the same breeze of cold wind in their faces so they would not feel the heat.
Allah has blessed me, my family and my friends because we got to know him, and we are blessed by the supplications he used to make for us in this life and inshaAllah in the next one.
May Allah bless his soul, he would say: salli ala habib Allah, Alehi salatu wa salam
