Bought a new mouse for my laptop which worked, I unplugged it for a few days and now it doesn't work. Is there something I have to do to make the laptop realise that there is a mouse plugged in again and to make it work

You should remove windows XP and install GNU/Linux, you will save a lot of time.

It's optical mouse?
If it's did u notice if that the light under it is always shining?

Can u describe the problem?
It doesnt' move well?
It doesn't move at all?
The OS give u any error message?
Did u changed something from the bios?
It's USB or PS/2?
Good luck
