just live.. yes you can 'just live ' very well for this!! I think it depends which part of Cairo you want to live.. I'm no expert on cairo.. but I have a friend in Heliopolis who rents a very nice apartment in a nice steet.. 2 bedrooms.. aircon.. sattelite tv for 900 le a month!! She lives on 350usd a month! Food is cheap,transport is cheap, so.. unless you're planning anything too extravagant, you should be able, I think, to live very nicely!!

Like someone else said, it will depend on what you want to do, but for just living in Cairo, $2000 is enough. You may be able to travel some as well (inside Egypt), if your expectations for this aren't too high.

I'd love to know where this LE900/mo flat is. That is one hell of a good deal if it is nice. For someone just coming over to Cairo, I wouldn't expect to find something great for that little off the bat. I pay nearly double that, and I've been here for some time, so keep in mind that your rent may be closer to LE2000/mo, but that is still within your budget.
