Seriously, I never heard about Ana until her death was announced in the media. I just know Gisele Bundchen from Brasil as she had a on-off relationship with Leonardo deCaprio for a couple of years.
Anyway, I opened roughly two months ago a eating disorder topic regarding Egyptian teenagers on this forum - but unfortunately no one besides Smuckers replied.
And actually, nothing will change after Ana's death in the perception of how teenagers and young women view their bodies. It will highlighten the subject for a couple of days and then everything will be back to 'normal'.
Thanks to our society, media, magazines, fashion industry many females have a wrong ideal of how to look like. Now already first and second graders feel the pressure to look skinny and start diets these days..... it's all so screwed up.

Oh my, I just have an A cup, only the pregnancies made my tits bigger for a while - then everything shrinked back to a 'sad normal'. Still I am totally against breast enlargements, any kind of surgeries unless medically necessary.

Her mom was on T.V., crying, and telling the parents to be more aware of their children's eating habits, even if they reach her daughter's age.
Questions:
1- How come we mostly have bulimia/hyperphagia in Egypt? (I think I know the answer but I'd like to hear your point of view)
2- Does anyone know of an Egyptian girl (or boy) with anorexia? Any statistics?
Thanks.
This is BEYOND sad. She was stunning "BEFORE". The question: WHO allowed her to get to that point. WHO put the makeup on the PITIFUL SKELETON and actually took picture of her?!?!? That as* should be behind some moral bars! Models are known to use drugs not to eat... just look at their empty eyes on the catwalk and in magazines. And really, is it attractive to be a walking hanger??? I sure would not touch a MAN like that with a 10 meter long stick.

Hi, Karah_Mia, how are you? But you know it's a typical woman thing to be over cautious about weight and looks. You never hear about anorexic male models.

I have heard about cases of anorexia among athletes, it's actually not that uncommon. Some of the men I used to go running with were very concerned about their weight and would monitor it all the time.
Male Eating Disorders - Men with Eating Disorders
In an era of diet fixation, chiseled underwear models and "a culture of muscularity," some researchers say eating problems among men are getting worse -- even as sufferers face a lingering stigma about having a "women's disorder."
Intentional starvation, cookie binges, vomiting, hospitalization. The details were typical for an eating disorder. But Jeff Everts might not seem like a typical sufferer.
"We're able to hide it much better," said Everts, a 43-year-old Albuquerque, N.M., resident recovering from anorexia and bulimia. "We don't talk about it, where women would."
Women are more likely to have eating disorders than men. But men can also suffer from bulimia, binge eating and, to a lesser extent, anorexia, according to researchers.
Leigh Cohn, co-author of "Making Weight," believes such disorders afflict about 2 percent of men versus 4 percent to 5 percent of women, and he is convinced the rate for men is on the rise. Other researchers have differing estimates, but there are no definitive studies.
"It's hard to know because men have been so reluctant to seek treatment," Cohn said. "And men, in many cases, are unaware that they have an eating disorder. For example, they may exercise obsessively and just think that's regular guy exercise behavior."
Athletes whose weight is crucial to their performance -- jockeys, wrestlers, distance runners and gymnasts -- have a higher incidence of eating disorders. Cohn said they can develop bad habits when weight loss is seen as a requirement of the sport. The root causes can be similar for men and women: genetics, low self-esteem, trauma and cultural influences.
Just as women feel pressured to look like stick-thin magazine models, men can be swayed by images of pumped-up hunks with broad shoulders, six-pack abs and narrow waists. Pictures of perfect bodies can reinforce the belief that "normal" bodies are not OK, researchers say.
And those perfect male images -- think muscle-bound movie heroes, magazine cover boys and shirtless rappers -- can be hard to ignore.
"I don't know what's on 'NYPD Blue' tonight," Cohn said, "but I'm assuming that we'll see some male skin, because we almost always do."
Researchers at the University of Central Florida released a study this month saying men who watched TV commercials of muscular actors felt unhappy about their own physiques. This "culture of muscularity" can be linked to eating disorders or steroid abuse, the researchers said. The book "The Adonis Complex" tracks the evolution of boys' action figures from the average GI Joe in the '60s to the absurdly pumped-up toys of today. Scaled to human size, the authors say one Wolverine action figure would have 32-inch biceps.
"Basically they're marketing to men in the same way they marketed to women," said Roberto Olivardia, co-author of the book. "And I think men and young boys have responded to that."
Dr. Theodore Weltzin of Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wis., said one study showed 70 percent of high school males dieting. The hospital offers residential treatment for males, and Weltzin says he sees a fair number of dieting men who are "carbohydrate-phobic," as opposed to women sufferers who tend to be fat-phobic.
"More males are engaged in really abnormal eating behavior in terms of skipping meals, in terms of engaging in purging after eating, and laxative use," Weltzin said.
Everts said his disorder became evident in high school in the late '70s when he began eating less and exercising more to become a better athlete. The 5-foot-10 football player got all the way down to 96 pounds, a hospital room and eventually, a psychiatric ward.
"They just basically said, 'If you eat, you'll get out,'" he said. That triggered a new problem: binge eating. Everts eventually found help, though he still considers himself recovering. He now weighs around 134 pounds -- within the normal weight range for a man his height.
Researchers say people are becoming more aware of male eating disorders and more men are starting to come forward. But not all.
"My male patients also have to struggle with this layer of, 'Well, does this make me less of a man? Am I gay? What is all of this about?'" Olivardia said.
While there is a stereotype that eating disorders are more prevalent among gay men, Olivardia believes that perception is because gay men are more likely to seek treatment.
He said he has patients in their 40s, meaning they have struggled with eating disorders for up to three decades before getting help.
Weltzin expects to see more male eating disorder cases in the future: "I don't see where percentages are going to go anywhere but up."

The male standard of beauty in the West refers to an athletic build which highlights broad shoulders, chiseled stomach, buffed chest and arms etc..
You CANNOT look like that by starving yourself.
You actually have to do the opposite, which is eat like a horse because adding a pound of muscle requires around 3,500 calories.
So I honestly don't understand male anorexia at all.
How could a man possibly hope to gain the ideal male physique by becoming anorexic?
Now female anorexia I understand.
The sleek, thin runway model body type has been promoted as THE body to have if you're female...not that I agree with it or anything. I like my women with meat on their bones
But, one can actually attain such a physique by minimizing what you eat, because basically you're just trying to look THIN and thats it..
Ofcourse, anorexia takes this to the extreme but atleast it can be understood logically in women.
Male anorexia on the other hand is absolutely illogical

Yeah, but if a guy starts out overweight, then he's got to either eat less or exercise or both. And that's when the dysmorphic part of the disorder can come into play. They don't see their real reflection in the mirror. Even if they are normal weight, they see someone who's grossly obese. They think they are trying to get to that male perfection, but they are doing it the wrong way.
And trust me, guys who eat 3,500 calories a day and watch football on TV are not going to look like Matthew McConaughey.

If he's just trying to lose weight, he should eat less. But if he wants to become muscular, he will have to eat more....more good food, and not that junk food crap.

I think you misunderstood me. Ofcourse, if you want to gain muscle mass, you have to do some kind of strength training routine aswell as take in alot of calories.
I eat roughly 3,000/3,500 calories a day, and my weight never goes above 195lbs unless I consciously attempt to put on weight..

If these guys knew what they were doing, there wouldn't be a problem.
But seriously, it's a psychological issue, not a diet/exercise one.

Look at this picture & tell me she's not atleast full
Let Sono & Cosmo girl check those pair
Tyra was a smart girl she went out and got a breast reduction ASAP.
Larger breasts are often a source of major health problems as women age, but its a very gradual thing.
She looks much better with this cup size, for a while in her late teens she had a case of exploding cupcakes.
I think everyone in hollywood learned from Soleil Moon Frye.

I don't know what Lil' Kim, a black woman, would want lip enhancement injections
Excellent observation.
Only white women end up getting thin and hanging lips.
All lips.
Hmm, are you being sarcastic with me MK?
Before every white woman in a thousand miles bears down on me with a baseball bat, not EVERY white woman has thin lips.
MK, I suggest you make a disclaimer aswell
~Alistair
I'm not being sarcastic at all. And I didn't say EVERY white woman has thin lips. I said ONLY white women have thin lips, or to rephrase it, thin lips are more of a white women's feature rather than black women.
I can't think of one black woman with thin lips. It's genetic. It's just like I've never seen a black woman with white skin!!
And I wasn't even sarcastic when I mentioned ALL lips instead of BOTH lips.

Alistair I am not really paying attention.
I am just glad my mother didn't take me in to cut off what God had given me. And because of that my daughter will be the same. If there is one thing I can give my daughter is the gift of not feeling shame over her privates. There is nothing shameful about having genitalia and being female. In that manner she will have a more wholesome and Islamic view of her sexuality and not such a perverted sense that other Egyptians have towards female sexuality. My ex and I have already agreed she won't marry an Egyptian.
And CAT when I compared Tyra Banks to Soliel Moon Fyre is because both had breast reduction in their teens. Both needed it very badly. Soliel Moon Fyre just took way too long to get the procedure done and she was an exploding E cup, all of hollywood was laughing at her for a decade. Tyra Banks had this done quickly and discretely, very smart.

You're being AUTISTIC as usual aren't you? Are you now referring to me being cut? I am not, just in case you haven't heard this before.
Now with your upbringing, I hope your Shebino Albino daughter doesn't end up having her own Cup Cake Show on the Internet.
