It seems that there has been another me online on the chatbox. Of course I can call it childish, and of course what's the use of it, people mention soon enough if it's the real one or not.
I wanted to know, did more people expierence this? Did you ever get signals that there was a lunatic using your nickname?
Is it possible to make a login-procedure or is it just one of the disadvantages of a open chatbox?

I don't use the chat program ?????
I think you pointed out an excellent example of why it should be removed.

Well, I don't care, really. If somebody is using my username at least I have been impressing enough to copy me. [Razz]
And the very few who know me, know it wasn't me...

That happened to me last year when they first started using the chat room again. I went there 3 or 4 times, the last time I was in there someone came in pretending to be me and proceeded to cuss everyone out then make derogative statements about Islam which involved frequently the F word, T word and numerous other colorful nouns that I try not to use.

When that person was confronted they then proceeded to produce a link to some dating website [Roll Eyes] . I never found out who did it but needless to say I never go into that chat room for just that reason so keep that in mind if someone comes in as Rumi and tells you that you have a fat Azz that it certainly isn't me!! [Razz]

lol rumi, Actually we have a secret word only people you have chatted before will know, so if they do not say it, then it is another person impersonating them!

But, Sara_uk, how do you know it was them in the first place?
Unfortunately, as I discovered, any of the free chat programs (not just the one attached to ES), you can make any name you like up to enter. Someone was impersonating me in one that I created myself and had the nerve to warn and ban me!
Luckily they were trying to persuade Egyptian7 they were me and asked for MSN details etc which he already knew I knew.
Can I suggest that if you are chatting, you also post up on here in the chat thread that you are in the chat room then people will know if you are you. If you don't post up here saying you're in then people should be deeply suspicious.
Just for the record, I rarely use chat and haven't used it for many many weeks now ...

And for some reason I was accused of that.

And who did this for you? Was it done with a packet sniffer or what?

And you'd have to look up the dynamic IP address rather quickly, and not all ISPs give out public dynamic IP addresses.

There are internet traffic data monitoring dumps put out every few weeks, but the sites change and for the most accurate data you need an invitation to those sites.

Unless its an AT&T ISP.

No one did it for me and I didn't use any secret means.

I do not hack or sniff and wouldn't even know how to.

I had a friend who is Bosnian. Some of the most prolific hackers are Bosnian because the internet backbone in that part of the EU is so badly managed.

Well I would watch him, learned some. But the manner he had done masking IP and MAC addresses and sliming up an IP ping trail was time consuming and messy.

I spend the occassional weekend or overnight with a couple that are both my friends. Both are security experts and know the blindspots of the internet backbone.

When taping an IP address trail from a header of a packet, at the socket layer; an adequate hacker can piggy back on another person's web activity and spoof a DMZ of more than likely "Southern Bell" ISP leasee.

Down south they are still using IBM mainframes for DMZ to gauge bandwidth between different ISPs who lease the bandwidth and then use it for customer traffic.

There is the occassional loose bandwidth that ISP let go of to reorganize their load balancing clusters and save on electricity and tighten security. But the DMZ does pick up the slack.

So a false IP address trail can be set.

In the north bandwidth isn't set loose like that and we don't use old mainframes because business and residential bandwidth isn't seperated. Plus datacenters must do their maintainance at night only when bandwidth is more available.

cat and Ayisha off course we do, Well generally we talk in the main with nothing important, no specific details will be disclosed but you ladies shared a secret about me? Now ???? know what is the secret word, because I told her before she left, I did not get a chance to remind you too, so if I suspect someone is impersonating you, I will ask a question you would know the answer for but any how nothing we say there should be hunting us here!
