My dish is on the roof, 6 floors above and my LPNs have gone out of alignment when we had high winds the other night.
I think I can fix it myself but for the simple fact that I don't want to go up and downstairs 100 times or install a friend in the front room and make 100 phone calls which is what happened last time I got 'a man' to fix it - aside from the fact that said 'man' (apparently the best repair person in the district) butchered the wiring in my living room unnecessarily before fiddling on the roof.
So, anyway, if anyone knows where I can get this handy gadget, I would be grateful!

I would try Radio Shack, and if they don't carry them, they might know who does. Good Luck

The only way to do it is to get the receiver AND TV set up on the roof and do the alignment yourself, but this is crazy.
Get the guy, and pay him his 50 quid or whatever, and save yourself the trouble of buying a device that could be n times more expensive than the actual service.

SQ. When a sandstorm mucked my tv reception up I need to call a guy for the same reason.
Two guys showed and one aligned the dish on the roof while his colleague monitored the reception on the tv, they even attached a new cable from the dish to the receiver for me as the ends were not in good shape. All for 50le.
Dzosser is right, it is most likely worth your time finding a professional to help out. They had a lot of equipment tbh.

Yes, but if it happens a few times then it will have been worth getting the gadget and doing it myself. I've seen them in the UK for about £15-£20.
Problem is the guy who lives round here I don't want in my flat ever again after the hatchet job he made last time for 75LE and we're about 15km out from the city so costs will probably be a lot higher by the time travel etc is factored in.
I might have to give in this time but never again... evil cackle.....

Shanta: I believe that you mean your LNB, from my experience Satellite dish signal strength meter are not very easy to use by none professional, I have one and it does not give same results as the ones those professionals use , check this URL , http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=218639
they are available at Maplin in UK , and the good ones are about 80 sterling pounds , the ones for non specialist are about 15-20 pounds, when I am in Egypt I prefer to get some one can do the job , as the labour is not expensive Any way you can find these signal meter at most of the shops at Tahrir street ( by Tahrir square) , all the shops there ( even in small Kiosk are selling them ,, but make sure to go to good one Good luck

yes you're right - LNBs - LPNs I was thinking about something else at the time
I am pretty sure the guy here didn't use a gadget.
I found a site online that you can zoom in on your property on google, input the satellite you want to aim at and it gives you the angles you need so it's a good starting point!
It's for a Texas satellite co but seems to be global if the satellite you want is on the list! Got both Nilesat and Hotbird on there (and where I live - just delete the Manchester UK and put Cairo in and take it from there - zoom in on the map until you find your place, then move the little green satellite dish icon over your place and then zoom in closer for more precise positioning!
Under the google map, it gives info on direction eg:

As they do not need it ,, they do 1000s of dish every day so they can memorise all the angles,, (you never find this in UK ) also you can notice that most of the times they do not do search for the channels,, they do enter Frequency manually as they memorise al of them ,, I used one of this men in Alexandria in July for similar problem as the one you have , and I am sure he charged me around 40 Egyptian pounds ..any way I do always get labour for initial instillation whenever I move in London and after that when I need to add LNBs or do any work I do it by my self , any way I did not find this signal meter useful for me ( I think I have the 20 pounds one) but sure some can find it ok for themselves

LNB (Low Noise Block) alignment is damn easy for any guy working in the business, they never use any gadgets, they simply use a satellite receiver and a small TV set, if you can take the stuff up the roof yourself then go ahead and try it, I've done that myself on several occasions as the dish is on my balcony, I'm a trial and error person.

I think I saw this in Wust el Balad. There are a lot of satellite shops there. I didn't ask for a price.
