I wonder how much "class distinction" makes a difference here. Maybe(a big MAYBE) these kids are the average ghetto children that most definitely deal with poverty, lack of stable family unit, etc. Maybe the middle class Black children have a different point of view(...hopefully). Salaam

^No monumental portined super-careful study here, but:
* Naw dawg, being called 'black' can still be an insult(, especially for a girl ).
* Being called 'white' can mean you're doing something good that's not 'black'. ex: can be being smart - mainly for young male children especially since children in general are susceptible to that sort of thing.
Still, it's not good that they get the idea from somewhere that there are certain things that aren't for them specially since they're black.
You just got to change the way people think.
* However this situation is improving, we are slowly waking up, I'm starting to see people and views change, but maybe that's because we're growing up.
Black females tend to apply themselves and be successful. There is definetly a stereotype we hold that says: black men are good for nothing except making babies; black women are strong survivors, who for some reason get the feeling that they need the men.
Maybe because we're viewed that way: black women are and have historically been strong and free. (free from what? How 'bout ruling Or, had rights or fought for them [where~ever]?)
Black men have been slaves.
Thus, the need for so much of my own to feel they can only pursue carreers in: baby-making, sex drugs & alcohol while getting over (sometimes barely, but never any effort), singing, dancing, and sports. These areas are heavily concentrated on/in. But it's improving.

What Box you kinda left me clueless on the point that you are trying to make.
Most of the black men I know including myself is very successful. You have to remember despite what the media say, that 2/3rds of African Americans are middle class and above.
What that means is that 1/3 is either boader-line proverty/middle class or in proverty. The 2/3rds are comprised of men and women so to say that men are slaves or have been slaves is extremely bias and it feeds into the false image that have been placed on us.
The singing, dancing and sports is the 1% of African American who are living rich or wealthy. Please note that the 1% may seem high but its not. There are hundreds of thousands of individuals who are underground doing extremely well. I don't to much care for the singing, dancing and sports folk because they are simply entertaining europeans looking like slaves. When they enforced a dress code on the NBA players it was just a reminder not to get forget their place.
Black men and women alike are struggling in U.S.A. and black men definitely have it the hardest, but that doesn't mean lack of accomplishments.

I think each person's perspective reflects the worldview of their family environment vis a vis the greater community. As an immigrant to North America, I have realized that the everything is a state of mind or mind over matter (if I doh mind, it doh matter!). People may have the illusion of freedom but the coming benign socialist tendencies would alert people that survival is more than just freedom to do but freedom from ignorance and hidden agendas!

Ex-Zack-attackly! I was pointing out an observation of an image or stereotype.. (my natural arch-enemy since Birth )

A fair assessment, except, How do you know that the men hae it harder than the women?
^Don't know that I'd agree or disagree with this statement, but let me just say this-
Black men may have the burden of striving on through adversity with the perception of being incapable,
but black women have to go around pre-occupied with the mis-conception that they're unattractive while STILL connected to 'our' stereotypes plus the ones just for them i.e. chicken head etc., although it isn't as taboo for them to be smart. Not AS taboo.
Oh, and I'm a dude by the way for those who are new. (yep no agendas)
I doubt an Indian,Japanese or a chinese kid living in the States spoonfed with western animation would pick up the Asian doll if the survey was projected at them.

True
It's not a black thang. Have you ever heard of the Asian eyelid surgery (Asian Blepharoplasty)?

Statistics and research proves that women have it better then men (African Americans) in the work force: Research project
As a side note: I love my black women above anything this planet has to offer. Our black women/African women come in all sades, and sizes ... lol
Love them all
