Jaguar, hi! I can help you find good teachers of Russian in Cairo. When you say "conversational Russian", do you need conversational business Russian, conversational to be a tourist in Russia, etc? What is your shedule like for the lessons? Thanks

write me on my email, we can talk about this.
I had to learn for six years Russian lessons at school (and at that time I hated it because I'd have rather studied the French language), now I wish I would have been more smarter and focused about it.
Well I never used my language skills and I can't communicate anymore but I am still able to read and pronounce the words (sometimes I do make mistakes).
I would say that indeed Russian is difficult to learn - not that simple like English or Spanish - but its definitely easier than to learn the Arabic language.
Still the best thing next to taking lessons in the desired language is to communicate with native speakers; and yes - you should try to stay focused on your goal and don't lose interest after a couple of months.
Russian language is a great language.
Good luck, Jaguar!
Tigerlily, ur post is encouraging and optimistic..thank u.

Tigerlily... Yes, you're right. Aren't they the Light?
I don't want to be too personal but maybe I am right assuming you live seperated and your little son is back in Russia? Well if thats the case I am very sorry about the circumstances. But if you are all happy together in Egypt you really should teach him Arabic - its his heritage too.
My kids are growing up with German and English language, its really great.

Thank you... Actually I need to communicate with my little son (kharochi Malchic) who speaks only Russian. So, basic Russian in my target. I'm willing to put as much effort as it takes to achieve that. Thanks again.
Tigerlily.. Yes, I do have the motive and have a great day.
Jaguar, I asked one person I know. He is busy for now at least. I am not in Cairo, so I cannot help. Sorry I suggested to you, but I thought it would be easier. I have a few more people in mind. I will wait for their replies and let you know. Hope you have fun with your little boy! how old is he?

Jaguar, Nikita is a boy's name. It is quite a distinctive Russian name from "old" days. But it is quite popular in modern days too. It is very cute name, I agree, especially for a little cute boy. by the way, one of former Soviet Communist leaders who is so famous for taking his shoe and banning it in the US was Nikita Khrushev Tigerlilly, I agree both Sasha and Nikita are cute names. Sasha is a nickname for Aleksandr (Alexander) for a boy and also for a girl (Aleksandra).
P.S. I feel bad, Jaguar for keeping your hopes up. perhaps I can teach you some Russian virtually. let me know what you want to know meanwhile looking for teachers for you in the area.
Liza

Tigerlilly, Good luck to you raising your kids. I am delighted to know that people from other countries love Russian names. Natasha is a very popular name, and I guess it gets stereotyped a lot. People think all girls are Natashas in Russia. I personally do not like it that much (do not get offended), this name is too common in Russia . it is a matter of taste, of course.

Elizaveta.. You mean Elton John was singing for the male Nikita? No wonder ! Believe me I never knew that. Thank you very much for your help.[This message has been edited by jaguar (edited 01 April 2004).]
Jaguar,
You are most welcome. I have not helped you yet. I sent a few emails to my friends who are in Cairo now. no need to thank me as nothing has been done yet. I hope it will work out so you could talk to your boy
I am embarrased to admit, but I am not familiar with that particular song by Elton John you are referring to. I referred to Nikita Krushev's visit to USA. He took his shoe off and banned with it to prove his point on an issue. Everybody forgot what the issue is ( ) but everybody remembers his act! he came back from USA and started to grow corn everywhere! please, let me know which song you refer to, I will look it up. The time of Krushev's is called "thaw" as before him there was Stalin and such
Hey Nikita is it cold
In your little corner of the world
You could roll around the globe
And never find a warmer soul to know
Oh I saw you by the wall
Ten of your tin soldiers in a row
With eyes that looked like ice on fire
The human heart a captive in the snow
Oh Nikita You will never know anything about my home
I'll never know how good it feels to hold you
Nikita I need you so
Oh Nikita is the other side of any given line in time
Counting ten tin soldiers in a row
Oh no, Nikita you'll never know
Do you ever dream of me
Do you ever see the letters that I write
When you look up through the wire
Nikita do you count the stars at night
And if there comes a time
Guns and gates no longer hold you in
And if you're free to make a choice
Just look towards the west and find a friend

"... Nikita," by Elton John. The singer is in love with a Russian border guard "
So you are right! It is the male Nikita. It is a male name, and no Russian women guard borders.
But whatever, I love my son, the name Nikita and also the music of Elton John.
Have a great weekend!
