In addition to pre-colonial nigerian architecture, it seems ridiculously hard to come across decent examples of pre-modern Ethiopian architecture as well. I'm particularly looking for architecture of the medeival period and the Aksum period. Online, I find almost NOTHING but the same photos of the Axum obelisks, or the same few rock-hewn churchs from the medeival period. Where can I look for more?
And as a note on the medeival period, I remember once reading that the first european contacts to Ethiopia found it on a similar level of development to medeival europe- but where's all the architecture? And isn't it true that much of pre-modern Ethiopia's population was nomadic or something? Or was that just the capital?
