Originally posted by Doug M: [QB]
Originally posted by Archeopteryx: [qb] So some writers say they Egyptians were not as black as Ethiopians, or medium in their complexion, or that Indians in the south are like the Ethiopians and that Indians in the North are like Egyptians. Some others say Egyptians were black like Ethiopians. It just shows that Egyptians did not all look the same, otherwise all writers would have described them in the same way. Also many times Egyptians themselves depicted Ethiopians (Kushites) as darker then themselves. Just as they depicted Levantines as lighter than themselves. From that comes that many Egyptians depicted themselves as medium between Levantines (and Greeks) and Nubians. Just as Manilius said when he considered them medium in color So some had lighter skin, some had darker, some had broad features, some had thinner features. As expected in a country in Africa which borders to Asia and is located quite near Europe. So in their art they are depicted with variation, not every Egyptian painting or statue look the same. Still today if you would go to Egypt you would find that people vary in skin color and facial features. Also some have very curly hair, some have wavy hair and some have even straight hair. Just take a look at this film where you see that many Egyptians still look like their ancestors. And many of them also do the same things as their ancestors. (ancient vs modern Egyptians) Today very few scholars claim that the ancient Egyptians looked like North Europeans, but they were not as dark as people like the Dinkas either. Today there are still many people in Egypt who look very similar as the ancient ones, and genetically there seem also to be links. And above all, modern Egyptians have musch stronger ties to Egypt than most African Americans Todays Egyptians live in the same land, they see the same things, many of them so the same things. Some still talk languages which are similar to the ancient Egyptians. None of those things can be said about most African Americans whereof the majority have not even been to Egypt. Even most Hoteps, arm chair historians and amateur anthropologists on the net have never sat their foot there, still they claim some kind of expertise on ancient Egypt. Some even think they know more than people like Zahai Hawass about ancient Egypt. In the end when it comes to knowledge about ancient Egypt one must go to experts who have been there, worked there, done research there. So in the end, I have difficulties to take anyone seriously who has not been to Egypt or done research there. Most of the writings of the arm chair historians I see mostly as entertainment. The modern farmer is from the rural areas outside of Cairo. So there are also people in Northern Egypt of today who looks like the ancient ones [/qb]
In other words you only pick facts that agree with your ideology that the ancient Nile Valley populations weren't "black" like other Africans. Keep in mind you use one single image from the tomb of Menna and not the whole thing: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-caretaker-using-mirrors-to-redirect-the-sunlight-into-the-tomb-of-30568495.html?imageid=A0F5A90F-8ECF-4982-8F59-7AD338F3983E&p=147416&pn=1&searchI d=64b64b00c9b0641e912c199cae4575ff&searchtype=0 [/QB]
