This is a different moment in time They were saying Cleopatra was white but sometimes they would also argue she was also Greek
and people on the other side who thought the backlash against Adele James, Kevin Hart and the Kemet exhibit was too harsh, they might say "you are hypocrites, this new actress is not Greek and you aren't complaining" So those certain Egyptian nationalist types may react to that or anticipate that some people might call them hypocrites. So it's possible some of them might complain about this new actress (at least at slap on the wrist level) to resist an accusation of hypocrisy.

Where are the examples of something published in media somewhere accusing Gal Gadot of white-washing? Maybe there are some but where are the quotes, something saying this yet not afrocentric

Look at the confusion in this article. You can't tell what the author precisely thinks and she is probably confused about it herself. She says Gadot was defending the idea of Cleopatra being white by saying she was Macedonian Rath never questions that. and she never says something like "but we cannot assume the Macedonian were white"
Well maybe Rath thinks the Macedonians were in fact white
but how could that be if Rath says Elizabeth Taylor was a a "white wash" ??
we are left guessing what Rath thinks about who the Macesdonians were.

You can't have it both ways, it doesn't make sense. Either the Macedonians were white so Elizabeth Taylor being white doesn't contradict that or the Macedonians were not white but that would have to be stated and a position taken -but this article is lacking that fundamental clarity

Going by the Roman depictions of Cleopatra, this Greek actress would be a pretty good choice for playing Cleo since she also has a prominent nose and a "Hellenistic" look.
