Originally posted by Yom: [QB] I think the woman's confused about her origins. The Oromo are not "blue-black," though Somalis and Oromos tend to be a bit darker than northern Ethiopians in general. Plus, the only google hits for "Gisi-waaq," the supposed Oromo tribe of Somalia that her mother is a member of, are from sites talking about her. Google_Search (first two hits are from her profile at a site she frequents). Apparently there is a Qebele ("neighborhood," "small district") called "Gisi" in the Yem Woreda/Wereda (district) in SNNPR (Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region) in Ethiopia. The Yem are pretty dark-skinned and have more so-called "stereotypical African features," (maybe more so than other Omotic groups? Their kingdom and people was known as "Janjero," meaning "monkey," by their neighbors, though this isn't necessarily an indication of their features) so maybe that's what she's talking about.
