The question goes out to anyone, since Nur can't answer it.
Neither geography or phenotypic labels has primacy in ethnic identification...well, because "ethnic" identification are by and large 'identifiers' used by a society, and cultures vary from society to society. This makes ethnic 'identifiers' subjective social constructs. Phenotype is biological. It can be assessed objectively in a biological sense, but can also be described subjectively by diverse people across the globe, according to their respective socio-cultural constructs. Geographical designations can also be assessed objectively in a geographic sense, but names of continents and regions have also been known to be subjective political constructs as opposed to geographical reality. Case in point, the artificial separation of Europe from the rest of Asian continent and regional appellation of "Middle East" which is not a reference to an actual continent.
