Thank God.

What this type of talk does Faith is say to those who don't judge a person by color hey, I'm black and you should judge me by my color. I spoke with my friend about this and she said that blacks who feel that the world is divided into black against white the way meninarmer does are in the minority. I believe it is divisive.

No one denies that there is prejudiced. The only thing we can do is discuss it and make changes to improve it. Liberals are not motivated by guilt. We just care about fairness, the environment, and justice for all. I have nothing to feel guilty about. Many white men kept slaves but also many white men fought and died to help free the slaves. How can one possibly believe that all people are the same depending on the color of their skin. That is so ridiculous to me. You know I have read that slavery still exists in other countries. Africa for one and there are black slave owners.

I for one am thankful that there are laws protecting people/woman/children. It speaks of civilization advancing. Some people see the negative in a blue sky. [Roll Eyes]

Ya, Jesus... I found my violin. Let me help you up on your soap box so you don't trip over your large self. We can set this hat infront of you for others to put money in while you tell your woes.

I think your son will manage just fine if you go and fufill your dream. At least he wont have to listen to your BS about how black he is and that every white man hates him because of it. Maybe he will have a chance at the presidency then. [Wink]

Disposable People: New Slavery in the Global Economy, by Kevin Bales

And

International Trafficking in Women to the United States: A Contemporary Manifestation of Slavery and Organized Crime

Abstract:

Trafficking of women and children for the sex industry and for labor is prevalent in all regions of the United States. An estimated 45,000 to 50,000 women and children1 are trafficked annually to the United States, primarily by small crime rings and loosely connected criminal networks. The trafficked victims have traditionally come from Southeast Asia and Latin America; however, increasingly they are coming from the New Independent States and Central and Eastern Europe. Trafficking to the US is likely to increase given weak economies and few job opportunities in the countries of origin; low risk of prosecution and enormous profit potential for the traffickers; and improved international transportation infrastructures.
- by the CIA

A Review of the above paper...

The spread of slave labor, estimated by the CIA to involve 700,000 to 2 million women and children a year, coincides with growing poverty and social inequality on a global scale. The US, in the midst of a record boom in profits and share values on Wall Street, is not exempt from this phenomenon.

That such conditions exist in the US is not a new revelation. Over the past five years several cases of groups of foreign workers living under conditions of bondage have been exposed. In 1995, 72 Thai clothing workers were found imprisoned in a Los Angeles sweat shop where they were forced to labor 22 hours a day for 62 cents an hour. Two years ago a slave-labor ring was discovered in the Jackson Heights section of Queens, New York. In all, 57 Mexican deaf mutes were forced to labor from dawn to midnight, selling $1 trinkets on the subways and at New York's airports.

But outside of some well-publicized statements from the Clinton administration deploring the international slave trade, and the establishment of a federal task force on the enslavement of women headed by Attorney General Janet Reno, virtually nothing has been done. The token character of the task force is indicated by the Times' description of its activities. It meets every two or three months and sponsors training seminars for law-enforcement personnel. Beyond this, the Justice Department has set up a “hot line” for victims, which is only staffed during weekday business hours.

The CIA report acknowledges that the government's efforts are fragmented and ineffectual. A number of federal agencies have jurisdiction, including the FBI, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), the Department of Labor and the State Department, but none of them consider prosecuting trafficking of women and children as a “desirable” assignment, because “investigating trafficking and slavery cases is arduous” and “unrewarding.”

The INS noted in an internal assessment last fall that agents had found 250 brothels in 26 cities that appeared to be holding trafficking victims. When such brothels are raided, according to the Times article, immigration officers generally move to deport the victims, while their captors are rarely prosecuted. In the few cases where traffickers have been convicted, the penalties have been light.

Explorer, all of that is caused by too much population. We have a growing global population with diminishing resources. It simply means that the more the population grows the cheaper life becomes.

Over population, amongst other concerns was the reason the CIA gave Saddam all that nerve gas to use on the Iranians.

That is what recent 'slavery' anywhere on the planet has been about -- an economic issue; i.e. to extract maximum possible work out of the vulnerable sections of society at the least cost as possible by the exploiters, with disregard to the well-being of the super-exploited.

The American Samoa operation is backed and supported by Nancy Polisi and her husband. They even included money in the bailout to protect their investment there.

That has been public knowledge for a long time. Corruption runs rampant in Washington through both parties. This idea that the Republicans are a;; corrupt and the Dems are the savior of virtue is simply absurd. There is no group of politicans in America more corrupt that the Democrat machine in Chicago. Dems have had their share or more of pork for decades.
Nancy Polisi is so crooked they will have to get a giant cork screw to screw her into the ground when she dies. Keep in mind Gold that Blago is a Democrat. If they had not got him on tape he would still be in office today.

hammer, have you ever noticed how you say things with nothing to back up what you say? I guess you can't help it since this is common to the party that you support.

I gave an article about Abramoff's and DeLay's ties while you gave lip service. If Polisi is involved you should be able to produce at least one article about it.

I really don't think that you want to debate the corruption issue.

You mnay be aware Gold that Abramoff worked with as many democrats as he did with Republicans. I do not know of any Republicans who have sold any Senate seats lately. Partisan people tend to ignore or dismiss episodes in their own party while they magnify those in the other party. Corruption is the same in both parties over time, it is part of human nature.
Along with Harry Truman, George Bush is one of the most honest men to ever serve as President.

Do you know of any Republicans who fired attorneys because they would not bow to the Republican agenda?

Do you know any Republicans who commited treason and outed a CIA operative endangering peoples lives all because her husband was telling the truth?

Do you know Republicans who lied to the American people to start an illegal war?

Do you know Republicans who changed the constitution in order to wiretap American citizens?

Do you know Republicans who solicited homosexual sex in a public bathroom while strongly opposing gay rights?

Do you know Republicans who sent sexual emails to their intern?

Do you know Republicans convicted of money laundry?

Shall we continue?

No one believes Blagojevich is right nor is anyone trying to protect him. He acted alone, not along with members of his party.

PELOSI'S TUNA SURPRISE
Economists of every political stripe agree that a higher minimum wage will cost some low-skill workers their jobs, says the Wall Street Journal.

Even Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems to understand this. Despite leading efforts to pass minimum wage increases, she granted a reprieve to American Samoa, which has a big fish and tuna canning industry, specifically operations run by StarKist and Chicken of the Sea. Both companies are headquartered in California, and StarKist's parent is located in none other than Speaker Pelosi's own San Francisco district. Democrats rediscovered the eternal economic truth that a higher minimum wage can cost jobs and granted Samoa its reprieve:

In 2004, according to the Department of Labor, Samoan canneries directly employed some 4,800 people, or nearly 40 percent of the work force.
StarKist and Chicken of the Sea would have plenty of other low-wage locations to do their canning; the average hourly wage for the American Samoan canneries in 2004 was about $3.60.
In contrast, the average cannery wage in Thailand was 67 cents an hour and in the Philippines 66 cents.
You don't have to go as far as American Samoa to discover other liberals who understand this -- at least when they do the hiring, says the Journal:

In 1995, the union-financed lobby, Acorn, sued California seeking exemption from the state's then-$4.25 minimum wage.
Acorn argued in its court brief that the more they must pay each individual outreach worker -- either because of minimum wage or overtime requirements -- the fewer outreach workers it will be able to hire.
None of this insight will do American Samoa much good, however. Red-faced after her tuna surprise was discovered, Speaker Pelosi announced that she was to re-examine whether the bill also should apply to the Pacific island.

Hammer, I wanted to go through each of these before replying but I don't have the time. Thanks for the link to the website by the way, cool site.

Yes, there is corruption on both sides but do you realize that most of these that you posted are ancient history with some of these people already dead. I said "CURRENTLY". My gosh if we want to go back to Lincoln's time we would find that the Republican party then had ideals more like the Democratic party today.

(My favorite was Jerry Springer- "Paying for a prostitute with a personal check") [Smile]

almst all of them were in the last thirty years Gold. The Dems in Illinois and Louisiana are the most corrupt people in the country short of Wall Street Republiacns. the problem today in America is that our ruling class, in both parties, is corrupt.
The Republicans got hammered because they left their principles at home when they went to work.
The democrats are doing the same thing now. In my life I have never seen such a spending orgy.
I disagree with you that Polisi and Reed have any ideals.

I would hazard guess that most if not all politicians throughout the world are prone to corruption, the almighty dollar has a way of tempting people. Africa is rife with corrupt politicians
