There are a number of sports that are almost totally dominated by white athletes. Tennis and ice-skating are examples.
When the Williams sisters made their breakthrough and in the process transformed the game into a real athletic power sport--like the men's game. America and the world just refused to embrace them as "game transformers". Just check out the blogs when they won. It was mainly racist[They look like apes] and sexist[Serena must be on steroids or is really a man]. And the dad was constantly made fun of. Maybe that's why they play so little tennis--the slams mainly.
OK, they "turned more than a few heads" but mainly negative ones. In the case of Lin, the turned heads were mainly positive.
There is nothing wrong with having all types play a sport at the professional level. It just makes things more interesting from a global standpoint. But in the case of U.S. basketball, I suspect that whites were just fed up with the dominance of blacks in the sport and wanted someone to come along and take them down a peg or two. Lin came along and the hype has pushed itself all the way to Asia now. Floyd has a point. He didn't get a megaphone and blast out his views. Somebody had to ask some questions and Floyd answered. And that person decided to push the answers big time.
Shani Davis is a top speed skater having entered a sport that's miles and miles away from a basketball court. Ice-skating is a totally white sport--yet America just wasn't willing to embrace the diversity of Shani Davis's entrance it hypocritically shows in the case of Lin.

Whether they are or aren't is besides the point. Assuming they are not, you think your little example changes the US going into Africa and the Middle East over oil? During the trans-atlantic slave trade and colonialism, black people became a global underclass. What whites like Confirming Truth, Cassiterides/Anglo-Pyramidologist find irksome is how this presumed underclass has managed to politically and culturally punch far above its military and economic weight. When necessary, blacks have adeptly put whites , particularly the Anglo-Saxons, on the back foot - most notably with the end of colonialism/apartheid and the Civil Rights movements.
Despite the sense of Anglo-Saxon victory culture, arising from their epic victories over the Spanish, French, Germans, Japanese and the Soviets, and notwithstanding their global cultural, economic and military dominance, there's a type of white person that seethes at how blacks - blacks!- are able to upstage, harry and embarrass them.

Again it has little to do with white liberals and everything to do with the fact that whites are not threatened with the notion of black militancy and actual white subordination whenever a black person makes an off-comment about whites. When whites say something negative about blacks there is little to nothing protecting blacks from a movement of whites discriminating against them and what not. As for white liberals, even if they do defend them, they know that the complaints blacks make lie more in what they attribute to the conservative white population.
