I know an Irish guy in Maadi who's an excellent tattoo artist. He also has a Swiss girl working for him at the moment.
I can send you a PM with the contact info if you're interested.

I think there is something that says the tattoo is not recommended in Islam.
I have no tattoos and will not get any, but I think if you get one it should not be on your face or hands. They get pretty gross after a while. My brother got one on his upper arm that is a drawing of the peninsula we live on, hahaha!

I had mine done long before I thought about Islam and the colours are still bright. I had them done as a statement about advancing years - rather like wearing a scarlet coat with a purple hat.

I've got a huge butterfly on my lower back! It's very colorful with a lady standing in the center instead of a 'moth'! Got it done by the Irish guy in maadi- he's great. Hygienic, professional with many years of experience and beautiful designs to choose from. I also have his contacts if anybody's interested. Tattoos are a wonderful way of expressing oneself, although thinking twice before doing it is important, as it lasts for life! Ouch..

Tattoo's....
I have several of them but all are in places that cannot be seen when I am dressed. I got them at age 17-20 and if I could get rid of them I would. In fact I am considering lazor surgery to remove one of them but its expensive and would take a few sessions to completely remove it. If you are considering getting one just make sure you really LOVE it. It's usually there for life.

I still today have a very old b/f's initials
tattooed inside a blue rose on my hip. Havent't
seen him now in years.!!! But it's been there so long I never even think about it.
I am actually thinking about getting one more. I have a Jordanian friend that is designing it for me. Its very beautiful Arabic writing (just several words) but he has to put the finishing touches on it. IF I go thru with it this one will be on my lower back. But I swear that will be the last one... Firstly, this really has nothing to do with the topic at hand. BUT, and please don't take this as being rude, but I am very sure Asooma knows what is Haram and what is Halal.
And I hardly think plucking eyebrows is "showing too much"????
btw, where exactly does it say that specifically plucking your eyebrows is haram??
I am not a Muslim but I have read the Quaran and I don't recall that...

Some scholars interpret the verse that speaks about changing God's creation as a prohibition for plucking eyebrows:

"And I will misguide them and make them desire, and I will command them, so that they will mark the ears of the livestock, and I will command them so they will make change to God's creation."Whoever takes the devil as a supporter other than God, then he has indeed lost a great loss.

He promises them and makes them desire, but what the devil promises them is only vanity.

For these, their abode shall be Hell, they will find no escape from it.

(4:119-121)

I personally find that a bit odd because in many cases the same scholars have no problem with circumcision, pierced ears, removing hair from other parts of the body or even female circumcision.

There's also a hadith (I think by Bukhary) in which the prophet supposedly cursed women who pluck their eyebrows.

Hi sin-dee!

The order not to pluck eyebrows did, as Dalia correctly mention, come from the Hadith of the Prophet. Here is one of them, that was recorded in both Bukhari and Muslim:
It is narrated from Ibn Masoud that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah curses those ladies who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those ladies who remove the hair from their faces (al-nams) and those who make artificial spaces between their teeth in order to look more beautiful whereby they change Allah's creation".
And here is the link for the fatwa that I took that particular translation from: http://www.islamweb.net/ver2/Fatwa/ShowFatwa.php?lang=E&Id=3745&Option=FatwaId

And here is a Hadith that relates it to the Qur'an:
`Abdullah Ibn Mas`ud has reported: Allah curses those ladies who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those ladies who remove the hair from their eyebrows and faces (al-nams) and those who make artificial spaces between their teeth in order to look more beautiful whereby they change Allah's creation. His saying reached a lady from Bani Asad called Ummi Yaqub who came (to `Abdullah) and said: I have come to know that you have cursed such-and-such (ladies)? He replied: Why should I not curse these whom Allah's Apostle has cursed and who are (cursed) in Allah's Book! Ummi Yaqub said: I have read the whole Qur'an, but I did not find in it what you say. He said: Verily, if you have read it (i.e. the Qur'an), you have found it. Didn't you read: And whatsoever the Apostle gives you take it and whatsoever he forbids you, you abstain (from it). (59.7) She replied: Yes, I did. He said: Verily, Allah's Apostle forbade such things. She said: But I see your wife doing these things? He said: Go and watch her. She went and watched her but could not see anything in support of her statement. On that he said: If my wife was as you thought, I would not keep her in my company. (Bukhari, Kitabu'l Libas) (Taken from: http://www.renaissance.com.pk/seocres98.html)

And here is a fatwa from Qaradawi, which indicates that there are some different interpretations of what the Arabic word "al-nams" means:
"Among the extremes of beautification prohibited by Islam is al-nams, which denotes removing the hair of the eyebrows by plucking in order to thin or shape them. The Prophet (peace be on him) cursed both the women who do the plucking and those who seek to have it done. (Narrated by Abu Daoud on good authority.) This practice is particularly frowned upon because it is customarily done by prostitutes.

According to some Hanbali scholars, if the husband approves it, the removal of facial hair (other than that of the eyebrows) and the use of powder, creams, and other beauty aids are permitted to women, as this is part of feminine adornment. Al-Nawawi is somewhat more strict, considering the removal of facial hair to be al-nams and hence forbidden. In contrast to his opinion, we may, however, mention Abu Daud's statement in his Sunan that "al-nams is plucking the eyebrows in order to thin them," from which we may conclude that al-nams does not include the removal of facial hair.

Al-Tabari reports a narrative concerning the wife of Abu Ishaq, who loved to beautify herself. Once she visited 'Aisha and asked, "What if a woman removes the hair from her forehead to please her husband?" 'Aisha replied, "Remove what is harmful from yourselves whenever possible."(Fath al-Bari, under the explanation of the hadith by Ibn Mas'ood in the chapter entitled "Pluckers of Eyebrows," in the book Clothing.)"

personally I think women look prettier without plucked eyebrows. If you notice younger girls have fuller eyebrows and so as women pluck or thread or wax their eyebrows, they start to look older.

oooh Charm - what did you choose?! I was thinking about it once, but I'm too much of a chicken.

My friend had a really pretty row of ivy done across the top of her back last year, and then two weeks later met her Egy husband-to-be - who doesn't appreciate it at all!

Samia, you are so right. Of course you must trust the person designing the tattoo if you can't read Arabic. I have seen the exact words I am thinking of getting in Arabic and they do look exacly like what I am having designed. I may not even get it done only. Still thinking about it. But I do fully trust this person. He is Jordanian, NOT a boyfriend, just a very, very good friend...

And Charm, I can't wait to see what you [Wink] have chosen!!!!

hahaha i know that feelin...i was in mallorca (spain) and got my 2nd and last tattoo, and i wanted the name ANGEL (malaika)in arabic, so i went to an arabic restaurant over there to write it down for me, after my tattoo finished i was so scared thats written wrong...and THAN THE BIG MOMENT i showed it to my mom of course she was upset and sad with me that i did it, but at least it was written RIGHT [Smile] EL HAMDULELAH [Smile] and im happy and its lovley and looks nice i like those more than chinese signs, coz arabic is something close to me, like the key of life on my toe!!! so both things i will never regret! and both are on places which i can cover easily and wont be shown even in bikini!

If Mubarak has a tattoo on his ass, it would have to be of a big dollar sign done in 24 carat gold leaf.

I would love to get one but I'm too much of a chicken. Some people say it is pain plus, others tell me it doesn't hurt at all. My BIG question is, what is the pain factor ?

Hey DamselInDistress Im with you on this one. Im desperate to get a tattoo but to chicken to follow through with it even though people say I have a high threshold for pain I would be fine. I have seen the faces of my friends while they were getting their tattoos done and lets just say it didnt look like they were having fun!

well i gotta say some parts hurt more than others,,but i wouldt call it pain unless u were spending hours at one session,,,its more irritating than painfull if its just a small tattoo,,,and also what ive noticed,,,girls do have a higher pain theshold than most guys when it comes to tattoos,,,,so dont let the pain put u off,,,its all part of the process,,,,no pain no gain,as they say,,, [Smile]
