BEIJING — A knife-wielding Chinese man attacked two relatives of a coach for the U.S. Olympic men's volleyball team at a tourist site in Beijing, killing one and injuring the other on the first day of the Olympics on Saturday, team officials and state media said.
The man then committed suicide by throwing himself from the second story of the site, the 13th century Drum Tower just five miles from the main Olympics site.
The brutal attack shortly after midday was all the more shocking because of the rarity of violent crime against foreigners in tightly controlled China, which has ramped up security measures even more for the Olympics.
The stabbing came only hours after what by many accounts was the most spectacular opening ceremony in Olympic history and it has already dampened some of the enthusiasm.

I don't know how to copy and paste articles here. Apparently it was 2 relatives of an American coach, 1 dead 1 seriously injured both were stabbed. The attacker then committed suicide by jumping of a balcony. A separate story this morning was that a New Zealand commentator was attacked yards from his hotel.

Georgia's Nino Salukvadze taking part in the the women's 10m air pistol managed to win bronze and while her country is in a state of conflict with Russia.
Russia's Natalia Paderina, took the silver.
After the shooting medal ceremony, they hugged and kissed and smiled for the cameras in a moment of pure symbolism.
Salukvadze said afterwards how she couldn't sleep on Saturday night, she was so worried about her family back home. She was close to tears, and I had a lump in my throat as well.
"We don't get mixed up in political things. Sport is beyond politics," she said.
