I don't believe Father's Day is celebrated at all in Egypt and I am not even sure how many know and also celebrate Mother's Day there either.

You see it's a different culture, while we are celebrating our birthdays with family and friends it's not a 'big thing' for Egyptians. Honestly I've seen only birthdays of children getting attention.

Mothers Day is the first day of spring - March 21st

Some people refer to it as family day.

Mothers day is celebrated in Egypt on March 21st. that's one hell of a business all around the shopping malls and stuff..the backround music in those places is an archaic song we Egyptians are fed up with sung by a Faiza Ahmed that's been reproduced for TV, picturing pathetic scenes of family gatherings around an ailing old hag offering her gifts and showing the poor toothless woman in tears. The song is nerve wrecking when you're in a mall on that specific day. [Mad]

I don't believe Father's Day should be celebrated at all.
I'm afraid it's one of those new age, metrosexual male, men-not-afraid-to-show-their-feminine-side sort of thing.
Give us a break for heaven's sake! You don't always even know who the father is, but you always do know who the mother is!!!
A man just lays the seed and walks away and the mother is the one who does all the nurturing in the womb and most of it outside.
Case closed, and if you're a man who doesn't like what I'm saying, go cry on your wife's shoulder because that's probably the kind of man your are [Big Grin]

Why should Mothers Day be celebrated??? It is just another over commercialised day to get money out of people!!!

I suppose you're right, but my point was if we were to celebrate any then it's most emphatically has to be the mother.
My apologies for my strong words, and if anyone found them offensive.
I'm just frustrated and would like to reclaim manhood from the metrosexual!!

And I think fathers have a right to celebrate on a special day of the year too - under the one condition they are actually present and positively active in their children's life. Why not honoring a good father and an even better role model for his offspring??

Btw here is a little reading for your tonight before you fall asleep - the history of Father's Day!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father's_Day

And you must really have problems to show off your more feminine side! Don't be scared - just do it!! [Wink]

If that means wearing guyliner and manscara, then no thanks. Heck, I even stopped wearing cologne since a long time for heaven's sake.
And by the way, risking offending even more people, add earings to my list of unmanly items. I can't imagine some ugly hairy bloke standing in Accessorize or some similar place trying different earings in front of the mirror and asking his girl friend "honey do you think this suits me better or that, does it match my skin colour?". The bloody bustard might very well be wearing guyliner!, heck maybe even a pair of knickers!
