I am getting married in Cairo soon and would like to find out whether it is true the Mugamma building has now closed as I will need to get a residents visa stamp in my UK passport before I can marry my Egyptian husband.

If the Mugamma building is closed, then where do I need to go to get this residents visa stamp?

As I understood it, you could obtain this residents visa stamp the same day. Is this still the case if I have to go elsewhere to obtain it?

Thanks for any input on this one.

This was discussed on this thread: http://www.egyptsearch.com/forums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=014984#000000

If I were you, I would apply for one before you come, it will save a lot of running around and waiting, especially if you're short of time. You can get a three month temporary tourist residence visa from the Egyptian Consulate in London. It's very quick and efficient, especially if you send a pre-addressed registered envelope.

It wasn't closed yesterday and will be going there again...so I guess it will happen later, the closing? Sure it can be as soon as next week though. A month's residency visa doesn't take too long at all but it depends what time you go there, of course. Plus that you have all the papers ready that you need.

I didn't need any papers for my one month residency, I gave them my passport, they stamped it and they gave it back to me. It took 5 minutes. Went at 8.30am
