Hello! Im really new to this forum! Im 21yrs old and im from England and basically I went to Egpyt last year and totally fell in love with it! I would really like to go back this summer and work in Hurghada or around that area. I have had experience in hospitality so catering or bar work would be ideal but im really not sure where and how to look for jobs going over there. Can anyone help? Thanx! x

Hi Maria, its very rare to be offered something in Hurghada while living in Egypt. You have to be there to look for work. My advice is go and get work. Email etc.. phoning, generally does not work.
If you are experienced, you could try HCCareers.com its a hospitality website that shows all jobs in the hotel/leisure industry.

Or no luck. Try ringing hotels in Hurghada direct. Sometime the Sinbad resorts look for animators (children entertainers etc). Look them up on the web site.

Good Luck

because i really have no knowledge of the step that you're considerading to make, I'm really curious as to why you would want a summer job at a resort city in Egypt?

How does that work out pay wise? Wouldn't you make less money working in Egypt than working in the UK?

If you want to go to Egypt and work and you have been offered a job, as long as it covers your expenses while your there (accomodation/food etc) then why not?

Lots of people go abroad to work for the summer, if you have no commitments then you might as well go, I would [Smile]

It will be a high speed course to maturity!!! Well, I'm having children in your age. Responsable, intellegent, educated, not na-ive, knowing what's happening in the world, traveled a lot. Should I agree them to do the same????
NO. No way. Not with anybody around who is prepared to explain them what is happening there, and what risks there are. Constantly. Day after day after day.
Why?
Because I don't want them to get hurt. And more. Simple...

?????, I think you being too strict here. If your daughter would come up and saying she wants to work for a couple of months at a hotel in Egypt you would simply tell her it's not happening? What you are afraid of mostly? That she could fall for an Egyptian man??

You know I must say, my mom is way more older then you but she didn't try to limit my freedom. And I think at a certain time you need to let your children do what they wanna do - if it's right or wrong it does not matter. But they have to make experiences in life, they have to learn to make it on their own, they have learn to be responsible of choices they made themselves. I understand your point that you don't want them to get hurt and so on but you need to give them choices, freedom. If you helped your children in becoming educated and not naive you gotta trust them with the choices they will make for themselves in the future.

Well, Tiger, I think age is not the difference between your mother and me, but ignorance! Girls who are working in animationteams are considered to be sluts. Of course they aren't, but that's how men are thinking about them. I think you know what's happening with girls who are considered low morality and western, isn't it?

Besides that, their opinion about ME would also change. No decent family would allow their daughters to work in an animationteam in the red-sea-area. No way!

It is a recipe for disasters. I don't know how long ago you were there, and how you are informed about how people nowdays are thinking about decent/indecent women, about good jobs/bad jobs, about high morals/low morals, about safe/unsafe. It is like it is: NO decent family would allow their daughters there for working in an animationteam!!!!

This girl isn't in a situation as I am. She is free to do what she wants. I'm only telling you that I wouldn't send my daughter there. And she is NOT a na-ive dumb girl...

The only possibility for my daughter to work in Egypt is when she will be protected by family, direct or indirect. No other possibility!!!

The life-expierence of a 21 yr old woman is very limited, Maria. I don't know you, I'm only telling you why I should not allow my daughter to work in an animationteam in the redsea-area.

A practical question: most hotels are hiring complete teams from outside agency's. The quality of this agency's depends on the qualifications of their people, you need to have certain skills to do this work. I don't know what your education has been, but if it is not relevant to sportsacademy, entertainment or entertainment management you may place questionmarks by the one who wants to hire you...

Maria86, you gonna be just fine in Sharm. I seriously hope you gonna accept the job (it will be for six months, right?) and if so a very exciting time would be ahead of you. You gonna meet so many different people and next to Egyptians also other nationalities will be employed for animation. I knew a girl from Austria she was leading the Kinderclub for three straight years and she loved her job in Hurghada!

If you have more questions please feel free to post them on this board. We'd love to hear about some of your experiences once you've arrived - if you'll find the time. All the best! [Smile]

I can imagine I will sound old and negative to you. But you have to admit: you have worked in Egypt, by a family in Cairo, and it has been a very long time ago. It's a whole lot different to work for a family in Cairo as working in a animationteam in the redsea area's. A lot has changed, and I'm sure every Egyptian will agree in my advice.
My daughter traveled alone to the US to live there for a while when she was 19. She traveled many countries alone. But, for me, Egypt is another story!
You may not blame me to be overprotective, I am absolutely sure that I know the Egyptian culture as it is NOW much better as you do. Besides that, the remarks about choosing their partners is way to far. You don't know me AT ALL, so please spare me your nasty comments.
I know what I'm talking about, and I am 100%convinced about the right in my advice.

Hell it's a lot different to work in an Egyptian family as an au-pair where you get f*cking treated just like an own daughter! Where you are not allowed to speak to men on a street and you have to be home before sunset. And don't you talk too much to the husband because the wife could throw a fit! And god forbid to think to go out at night because of the family reputation! [Confused]

You such an unpleasant person, ?????, you think you know it all but you don't. You wouldn't have received some fire back from me if you wouldn't have made such a stupid comment about my mother who is ten times wiser as you and doesn't give a crap about Egyptian gigolos. But they seem to float around in your mind every single day. What an awful place to work as an animateur but it's good enough to go there on vacation, isn't it? I just wonder by who you wanna get entertained at all? Tourists needs to be entertained - it's part of the holiday package.

Seriously I believe you totally misunderstand the concept of an animateur. It has nothing to do with sex even if you obviously just assume exactly that. Sad very sad, that you have such a cheap impression about the work so many people doing worldwide in resort areas whether it's in Egypt, Spain, Dominican Republic or else. These people must be the scum of the scum for you, isn't it.... [Confused]

In first instance I wrote a post to defend myself against your charges, because I was angry you being so personal. After a walk with my dog I changed my mind. I had no intention to insult your mother, 'ignorance' is not an insult as far as I know, and I didn't say something wrong about animationteams, I said how Egyptians are thinking about girls working in animationteams. That's all.

I think the girl concerned should decide what she wants to do. It's only for 6 months and she has said she will have food and accomadation supplied. It's an experience for her. As long as she has a return ticket home if things did turn sour. All the best to her. Met lots of people working in animation in Sharm. It was hard work, very little time off.

What s wrong with animationteams?

She won't be working in Aswan or in any other town in Egypt. She will be working in SSH, such an artificial holiday paradise. It s not Egypt we know and they are not the Egyptians we know.

There may be Egyptians who think bad about animator girls, but we also know how those kind of men behave to regular tourist women. [Frown]

Yeah, and it is just because of this behaviour, that I wouldn't allow my daughter to work there.
They are rather double-faced in this. The men are multiple-bad themselves, but they treat the girls in animations as whores.
Not into their faces, no they seem to be the polight sweet talking gentlemen, and they would use very oppurtunity to use such a girl for all the possible oppurtinities she could give, so I would protect my daughter against such an enviroment. Read Beach Politics!!!

What a narrow minded view point to think of all animations girls as "whores" and to whoever co-signs to such a narrow-minded view is just as ignorant!!

Animation simply means entertainment. There are a number of Kids Animators, do we now have "whores" playing with our kids?????????

*Guess all those question marks mean some people are just lost.* [Roll Eyes]

Difficult, isn't it : reading?
Remarkable enough for somebody who should teach others how to read...

Hi Maria - Sharm is a very safe place and the crime rate is very low. What hotel is it ( pm me if you dont want to say here ). Whenever we are in Sharm the animation teams always seem happy in their work. Be aware though that the hours are long with little pay. It is an experiance and I would personally say go for it. As long as you are not looking to make a mint. The people are lovely and you will make friends in no time. Some hotels are quite isolated. What area is the hotel in. Naama bay is very lively and the hotels along the prom are lovely.
Good luck

Good point. In fact, I noticed that most kids' groups in hotels are run by female animators.

Girls who are working in animationteams are considered to be sluts. Of course they aren't, but that's how men are thinking about them. I think you know what's happening with girls who are considered low morality and western, isn't it?

So what? Girls and women who live on their own in Egypt are also considered sluts by many people here, particularly if they are Western. So does that mean we should not come to live here? [Roll Eyes]

If you keep avoiding everything that might make somebody frown on you or regard you in a certain way, you'd never make any experiences anywhere.

And why would anyone over 18 be obliged to follow their mother's wishes in terms of which job they take on or not anyway? So I don't understand the whole thing about "I wouldn't allow my daughter to do this kind of job".

Ya know, there's nothing like repeating a rumor as if it's true, then later trying to justify it by laying the blame elsewhere.

And why, oh why, would the OP care about the opinion of the average Egyptian family?

Maria, go. Enjoy yourself. Just use all of your common sense. And make sure you have YOUR OWN money for a return trip and never lose sight of your Passport. Have fun.

I'm wondering don't you need working visa or something? I was considering working in Turkey, but I would need to take working visa there. Somebody work without it, but police hade made rules more strict, and if they find out you are working without it, you will return back to your homeland.

I'm just wondering don't they have same kind of rule in Egypt? And how easy it is to get working visa there? I have sometimes read that it would be really difficult but I would like to hear experiences if somebody has been lucky and got it.
