Dr. Johannes Krause, of the Max Planck Association and the University of Tubingen in Germany, completed a DNA study involving a cache of Ancient Egyptian mummies. He claimed that his "advanced DNA sequencing techniques proved that the Ancient Egyptians were "NOT" of Black African origin. After much review of modern DNA sequencing theory and going over the cache of Ancient Egyptian mummies truly used in Dr. Krause study, I began to discover serious problems. I found several articles that challenged Dr. Krause study, some of which dismissed the new study as scientific racism. (race propaganda) There was only one way to find out the truth. Find the funders of the DNA Study. Find the Funders of Max Planck Institute. Look at the History of Max Planck Association and the University of Tubingen and look at the educational background of Dr. Krause including mentors and Professors.
What I Found:
Max Planck Association; Alias Keiser Wilhelm Association of Germany is possibly the most shameful science organizations in world history. Max Planck Association scientist, along with their allied professors at the Universities of Tubingen, Berlin and Munich created the deadly platform of Eugenics that was adopted by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime. This campaign of terror and murder started with Nazi Scientists Eugene Fischer and Ernst Rudin who were promoting their eugenic ideologies within the fields of Anthropology, Genetics, Psychology and Human Evolution. Eugenics and white supremacy became the center theme of the majority of Max Planck's disciplines of research. Their Scientist often fabricated data, manipulated lab statistics, and committed scientific fraud in order to perpetuate and justify forced sterilizations, infanticide, slavery, concentration camps and mass murder! Some of the worst Scientist/Doctors came from the University of Tubingen. They slaughter babies in the name of Eugenics. Others pre-ordered brains from the Jewish concentration camps. Some did horrifying experiments on 1500 sets of Jewish twins. After World War 2, the German Economy collapse and the Max Planck Association/Keiser Wilhelm Association was in disarray. They went to their long time American supporter for financial aid; the Rockefeller Foundation! The Rockefeller Foundation, who had supported the Eugenic crazed scientist up into the start of the war, promptly financed Max Planck Institutions and placed the disgraced Nazi scientist back in power as Department heads and presidents of the most prestigious Universities in Germany. Many of these scientist had been in prisons or were awaiting trial for murder and mayhem. Only by the help of American and English power brokers and governments (Eugenic supporters and Racist) did these, Scientist escape the firing squad. From 1945, these draconian scientist continued to influence western academia, through the research of Max Planck Association, especially in the areas of Human Evolution, Genetics, Anthropology and Psychology. Very similar to the propaganda wing of the SS Nazi regime, they perpetuate reality by pseudo-science and statistical manipulation. Their prestigious positions and Nobel Awards make them almost unquestionable. (Even though many of the Max scientist also have top awards from Hitler himself; complete with stars and swastikas.) From 1945 to 1982, the majority of Max Planck Association presidents were once active Nazi members and Nazi supporter. Several of them have Nazi and SS memberships on record. Many of their Nazi medals and awards are a matter of record. From about 2000 to about 2017, Max Planck Association has been in a state of damage control after being exposed by research historians as having one of the most heinous records of any Academic organization! To make things worse, between 2006 and 2017 their labs were caught with hundreds of body parts, mostly brains, in their refrigerators, that were later identified as actual Auschwitz concentration camp victims! (You can't make this stuff up!) Now, Dr. Johannes Krause, and his Swiss Mentor, Dr. Paabo, are scientist working in the fields of Genetics, Anthropology and Human Evolution. They claim that Max Planck no longer embraces the Eugenics platform and race based science. But really. Paabo and Krause worked on the Neanderthal Genome project, where they attempted to show that white folks are different from Black folks. Now Dr. Krause has worked on a study that shows that Ancient Egyptians are not Black Africans. Seems like Race Science to me! Actually, Dr. Johannes Krause and his Mentor Dr. Svante Paabo, received their PHD's in Retroviruses and Ancient Plaques! (Hmmmmm?) In conclusion, I am extremely suspect of the DNA study of Ancient African Mummies as completed by Dr. Johannes Krause. I have doubts about his procedures, especially his specimen selection process. In addition, the long time moral corruption, scientific fraud, and academic psychopathy that became a norm in the culture of the Max Planck Association worldview, has never been rectified or dealt with in a adequate way. Many of past presidents and leading professors of the Max Planck Institutes and University of Tubingen, up into the 1980's have been tied to horrific crimes against humanity. Their commitment to White Supremacy ideology, race science and murderous Eugenics corrupted their moral compass and blinded their scientific perspectives. Well IDK how responses will go on the whole question of race because as far as much of ES goes, race is unscientific and rooted more in phenotype. There's already been a lot of discussion here about ethnic groups that aren't African that were/are labeled black so you may get some disagreements in what their research can talk about. Many people here will refer you to phenotypic data or Egyptian art.
However academic racism does often does make the assumption that blackness is synonymous with Sub Saharan Africa. So while others may or may not, I'll bite for a second since genetic distances from SSA is measurable. Omitting the Max Planck results doesn't explain other genetic research that show DNA from "Eurasia." They got the most press, but they weren't alone. Other researchers started putting data out not long after.
Honestly I don't think they technically lied in their results. Though it's certainly strange that of all things they would look for in a study that's supposed to measure demographic change light skin was something they were looking for. Light skin offers very little information on the subject, and wouldn't be a very compelling thing to look for on this subject unless the intention was to make assumptions along ideas of race or ethnicity.
Poor sample selection is usually the biggest issue with Egyptian genetic data. The data from Amarnas and Ramses is sparse and at times feels incomplete. The samples are also considerably younger than OK Egypt. But I refer to that research more because the Egyptians were southern. If I have to choose a younger sample, I would choose a southern sample which would hopefully have fewer influences from Lower Egypt and from foreigners.
The site Max Planck sampled was distinctly Lower Egyptian. Lower Egyptians were not the creators of AE civilization. They were northern Arab or more Arab mixed as a people and were taken over by the direct ancestors to the first Egyptian rulers. The Lower Egyptians they sampled were even worse than an OK Lower Egyptian sample would've been because they'd date centuries after the Hyksos and mass immigration. They didn't have to make fake results. They just had to be sure to sample the "right" people. It's fair to say they were Egyptians, as they were citizens from the start. But it's deceptive to use them in a sampling pool when a researcher knows where people's assumptions will go.
Similar problems can be found with other studies. They sample from small communities that had contact with foreigners, and other groups of that were more mixed with Lower Egypt. If they sample upper Egypt its in time periods after the lower Egyptian phenotype spread into Upper Egypt. It's interesting that Old Kingdom Aswan, Hierakonopolis and Thebes are not of similar interest to researchers. Even in a lot of modern research sampling works similarly. What southern data we do get seems to be hinting at something relatively more "African."

The Kaiser Wilhelm Society was not "just" about Eugenics but of course was the primary institution behind it in Germany. The society also played a large role in the Namaqa genocide in Namibia and eugenics studies there. Keep in mind however that Eugenics actually started in the UK (Francis Galton) and spread to America before becoming popular in Germany. Other than Eugenics, the Society was notable in all aspects of science, especially physics, which is why the name was later changed to the Max Planck Society for hist contributions to physics.
Eugenics doesn't just involve skin color obviously, being as ANY aspect of human physiology can come under the Eugenics paradigm. And "race" is just an umbrella term for any collection of features and characteristics that they can claim to be significant identifiers of human biology. Any feature that distinguishes one group from another or can be used to prop up European concepts of "superiority" can and have been identified as "racial" traits.

The Kaiser Wilhem Society for the Advancement of Science was a left wing "progressive" institute founded by Germans on the basis of Hegelian philosophy that is the philosophy of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. Not only was Hegel as socialist and statist who shunned individual rights in favor of the state but he was also a racialist who was one of the founding fathers of the idea of racial hierarchy where whites are supreme and black peoples such as Africans are the lowliest and thus a "natural slave race". He even stated that when it comes to history and human development Africa is to be ignored altogether with the exception of Egypt which in his view was a civilization introduced to the continent by caucasians from the Near East. His views and ideas have influenced and shaped German peoples ever since especially in regards to Hitler and the Nazi party.

And Doug is correct about Herrero Genocide in Namibia which was actually the very first genocide of the 20th century preceding the Armenian Genocide. Not only were many natives in Namibia killed but also tortured and experimented on, their bodies vivisected and disected and their organs and other remains shipped back to the German Empire for further study.

Thanks for your deep research into this. When that Abusir paper came out, I already noticed this odd history. And I made known about it and why I had a problem with that paper. I wrote about the use of bayesian and markov statistics to manipulate and filter out data.
