Ferret, I met your twin today! She was a midwife teaching my antenatal class, and looked exactly like you (I was tempted to get a picture. Hopefully she will be my MW when I give birth, then I'll have an excuse to get a shot). Freaked me out every time she talked and didn't have your accent.

Yep, they said about 8lb. How big was Ameria? I think I'm going to go over the date, so will probably be closer to 8.6lb or so.

They don't let you go over by more than 12 days at my hospital- I think he will hold on until oct, grr. I have wrote a birth plan (gas and air and the almighty epi [Smile] What did you have?). Because I was on high risk care, I wasn't going to be allowed to use the birthing pool, but they have signed me off now, so I think I will have a dip if it is free. Mum and Sam will be in the room with me.

how come you can't go in pool? I had gas and air and the pool. they did offer me peth but i wouldnt have been able to go in the pool and i really wanted to. gas and air was brill! i felt drunk although i had too much too soon and the effect wore off. lol

I couldn't if I was still considered high risk, but the only reason why they classed me as that was because of my weight. As everything has been fine in pregnancy, I'm off high risk now, and so can use the pool. High risk people just have more chances of needing medical intervention, so a pool would make that difficult. My hosp only has two, one in the midwife led birthing unit, and one in labour ward, so fingers crossed the labour ward one will be free.
Trying to avoid peth, but will see what happens. Did you give birth in the pool, or did you move to "dry land"? I'm only going to use it as a pain relief, but then go onto a bed.

i did move to dry land... lol ... they never said iwas high risk and i'm not a skinny minnie. I was in the midwife place, its so much nicer than the labour ward! more homely and midwifes have more time for you.

to be honest, my birth place was only birth pool and gas... but if they think i need more i'd go with what they said. When you're actually in there you don't care what you're given as long as they get the baby out asap!

tibe you don't wanna be telling us that!! people will start commenting on the size of your... thingy!!....

I didn't tear either! that was what I was most scared of! not the labour and birth but the cutting or tearing and then stitches!

I think most of it is down to if you have a good midwife and do what she says. My midwife was so nasty when she came in half way through!! I thought what a bitch for telling me off for being in the wrong position but i'm glad she was firm with me or i'm sure it wouldnt have been such a good birth.

They bloody well better give me one! lol. But they only have one person who does them on the ward, so obviously it's a waiting game, and he might come too late if it's a busy day. The thought of an epi really doesn't bother me, as long as I don't see the needle beforehand.

well i didnt have the needle i had a tube they fed thru down my spine. and if i moved an inch it could have parylased me.so ooo and the needle will hurt for the rest of ur life make a wise choice, cas anytime i get somethin down yr spine it shocks yr spine and u can have problems for the rest of yr life. sure it relieves yr pain for labor but think long term i still have pain in my area that the tube was in and that was almost 20 yrs ago.. so i would get a saddle block if yr having normal child birth. or a drip.. i would never get an epidural again.

I don't think they just give it to you wk... unless you're hospitals are different. Like you said, they only have one person doing it. they have to deal with the people who really need it... my mate had to have it cause she had preeclampsia, or women whos baby is distressed or problems during labour. I got told, most of the time, by the time they are free you're too far into the labour to have one. What did your midwife say about it?

Tina, I have no idea what you had, but that doesn't sound like an epi to me! On the extremely rare occasion, an epi can give you some back damage, but it is extremely uncommon. Also, nowadays most epis they give are "mobile epidurals", so you shouldn't be completely numb.

LB, it seems my hospital is a bit different, because most of the time people who want an epidural will get one, they just might have to wait a little bit. I don't know anyone who had to go without because the person didn't get there in time. Obviously it does happen, especially if your labour progresses quickly, but thankfully not too common. Maybe my hospital labour ward isn't as active as yours?

Before surgery, you will be given some type of anesthetic (general, spinal, or epidural) if you have not been given one earlier in your labor. General anesthetic is normally only used for emergency cesareans because it is effective immediately and the mother is sedated. The spinal and epidural anesthesia will numb the area from the abdomen to below the waist (sometimes the legs can be numb also), so that nothing can be felt during the procedure. You will probably receive a catheter to collect urine while your lower body is numb.

thats what i had but mine was different they used a tube to inject the meds cas i was numb from neck down. i was awake the whole time.and scared.all i felt was pressure.also it was aoo 1990's things too not the needles. nowadays there are more options.but either way to go good luck..and just wish for a healthy baby.
